I am lost today and left with some unsolved, todays clues are not very good from the point of surface reading and as usual I feel there are a lot of inconsistencies, don't know if I am right or whether the clues were too good for me. Addendum based on comments below

  1. Hi Colonel, The annos as I can see based on your answers. Haven't attempted the crossword myself...

    1A: end part = T
    surface = RINK
    east most borders = ET (borders of EasT). Not a very nice way of clueing ET.

    13A The definition is "attempts". Take odd letters from BoIl DiSh for the solution.

    21A Register could be an official list or record. e.g. Strike the brat's name off the school register.

    2D It is possibly R AT ED. Not sure of the connection between side and AT.

    8D PI ROGUE seems to fit, but defining "rogue" as "naughty child" is not OK.

    20D Going by this compiler's style, my hunch is that "large" is an anagram indicator for DEW...and layer of "seven" gives SE. So the answer could be WEEDS*. I hope this answer is not correct though, because if it is then the clue is pretty awful :)

    26D Maybe A = Avenue?
