These are to be taken as two anagrams:
Could be Mira - MIRA* - AMRI
twinkling star - STAR* - TSAR
Defn: a city in India - (AMRI*)(TSAR*)

ReplyDeleteWould this be considered ambiguous clueing if one were to tackle it gridless ?
ReplyDelete9 Following behind king (5) (LATE)(R) Vs (AFT)(ER)
Bhavan,
ReplyDeleteIsn't ER generally used for Queen (Elizabeth Regina) and GR for King (George Rex)?
Of course, ER could be used for King Edward (Edward Rex)
Bhavan I had originally put down AFTER thinking there was an error in the clue giving King instead of Queen. I got the answer only LATER.
ReplyDeleteLoved the ACHES AND PAINS cartoon. Reminding me of our friend here. How are you today Kishore?
ReplyDelete@Suresh: I made the same mistake and couldn't get a RATIONAL answer for 2D.
ReplyDelete@SR: I wasn't contesting the clue. In the current context there isn't any ambiguity. Just remarked about the quirk.
Bhavan The clue you would have got stuck was 1D since RATIONAL fits
ReplyDelete@Suresh : Mea culpa !
ReplyDeleteKishore.@ 09:26 From your photograph OBESE doesn't fit. But maybe an emperor size ego does
ReplyDeletesuresh: photo doesnt show 3rd dimension, hence first conclusion wrong, tho i fully agree with your second conclusion and thank u for saying so. blogs and fb cater to the urge of the ego and i have sipped fully of these. as hinted to richard some time back i planned to take a break from the blog on the completion of half a helio-centric orbit from 30th march the day i first posted and take my pumpkin chariot. this would have been about 30/9 but my inability has only precipitated this.
ReplyDeletewo afsaana jisse anjaam tak laana na ho mumkin,
use ek khoobsoorat modd dekar chodna achcha,
chalo ek baar fir se ajnabi ban jaaye hum ...
thanks to all for the nice time i had here
Hey, Kishore, I had been busy since morning attending different events. What is your idea? Trying to whip up a mass campaign urging you not to stay away from this blog?
ReplyDeleteMind you, there could be such a landslide in your favour that the earth beneath your feet could just slip away! ;-)
What afsana and what anjaam?

ReplyDeletebtw, these lines were written by Sahir. They're supposed to be a tribute to Lata who was said to have been madly in love with him at one time. There were at various times various other highly accomplished women of art who were in love with him incl Amrita Pritam, the Punjabi poet who won the Jnanpith Award or something just as big. Re Sahir, Ms Pritam is said to have remarked: Sahir is like the sky but all I ever wanted was a roof over my head.
Sahir never married anyone. He was the last of the great mother worshippers of India.
