  1. 24ac AURIC is the first name of Goldfinger. His manservant, Oddjob, a mute Korean helps him in his crimes.

  2. I notice that Col has already given the link.
We had a rerun of the old Bond movies on one of the channels.

  3. For the attention of Raju
I have had difficulty in being able to post Comments here even after having done so previously. I figured out what was the matter. I am writing the following from my experience.
    Let's say you have a gmail a/c.
Let's say you have a Blogger a/c. If you don't have one, please set up one though it's not necessary that you should be posting any messages on Blogger.
    First sign into Blogger.
When you visit the Col's blog see on top right 'Sign in'. You should do so.
Then when you visit the Col's blog you will see Comment as XXX (Google). This means that it will accept your message.
If you have not signed into Blogger first, when you click Sign in on the Col's blog, you will be taken to Blogger and asked to sign in.
When once you are signed into the Col's blog, it's rather permanent unless you sign out deliberately.
    The point is:
To be able for the Col's blog to accept your Comment, ensure that on the top of his blog it's 'Sign out' (which means that you're signed in).
Prior to this sign into Blogger.

  4. Raju talks of his crossword clippings.
I too had bundles and bundles of THC right from No. 1. Almost all completed fully.
As newsprint tends to become yellow and smelly, I discarded them at some point of time.
I also have several books of crosswords and these have not only become brown but also are falling apart.
If there was a gap or two in a crossword in a book of crosswords, when I take it up and look at it I am able to solve it instantly. The years that I have grown up have not been without learning!
So, the moral is: never give up!
I agree with Raju that getting an answer from a word pattern search software doesn't take us anywhere. OTOH, it's better to accept defeat but, mind you, see the answer the next day and figure out how the sol. is derived. You're accumulating knowledge.

  9. An otherwise good crossword marred by references to local (British) events/things such as in 12a and 9d, from a THC solvers' perspective

  10. Raju,
Hope to see you soon commenting here once you read CV's comments, however your posts will have to be on the same day if others have to see it but since you mentioned to me on the phone, that you do the CW late in the evening, I suppose you will not be looking at this blog during the day.

  11. If someone wants to mention something about a crossword but it's rather too late in the day (because of the person's work commitments or difference in time zone), they can, while placing comment under today's crossword, add parenthetically (from yesterday) as their first line so readers won't miss it.
I think that any Comment that is posted after 9 p.m. IST is likely to be missed - unless one revisits yesterday's thread the next day and updates himself or herself.

  12. Vikram,
I thought the number of references to things British was relatively little in this particular grid. At the least, I could at least guess the general answers the clues were pointing me towards without having to pore over a dictionary or an encyclopaedia.

  13. Ugh...

Apologies for the redundant use of "at least".

Shall try and post my comments on Sunday Xword tomorow and if it is not too frustrating with Google, shall be more regular on a daily basis.
