DeleteThe reverse of 6A appears in todays HT as
ReplyDelete"Confusion conductor revealed about Lassus’s first mass (9)"
Maestro ma maelstrom gamaya !
DeleteDo all Bengalis pronounce very as Beri?
ReplyDeleteI had shared a pic of a backdrop at a Bengali wedding, which I had received in email, with a few friends in this forum.
DeleteIt read, '.............beds...............'. Kishore found it quite explcit.
What a bedding invitation !
DeletePresently, they must be discussing the Haryana land deals as Bhadra-log
DeleteDid you reply to BheeJ?
DeleteNot all. Most. I know many Bengalis who do not have a trace of their famous accent.
DeleteRaghunath, I once had a friend from the North East who used to pronounce my name exactly the same way. It's perhaps a regional thing - particular to languages of that part of the country.
DeleteVabayo nabethaha! There is no difference between Va and Ba
DeleteThe NINA is timely and inspiring.
ReplyDelete20A - G seems to have Kolkata bery close to his heart...;-)
I remember his saying that he and Vhargab spent some of their childhood there
DeleteMy husband's name is boidhyanathan!:)
DeleteDid he hear that? ;-)

DeleteGreat, Deepak for spotting the NINA
ReplyDeleteDG indicated in Orkut about the NINA early this morning, but I could not realize that at that time. Beri bell done DG.
DeleteSuresh @ 8:53,
DeleteNot me but Kishore
23 From now on, go in support of the tailless (10) HENCEFORTH (HENCE FOR THe)
ReplyDeleteFrom now on: HENCEFORTH. HENCE : ?
8 Affront cut short by a regiment that’s detached (7) INSULAR (INSULt A R)
Unable to find R for Regiment.
3 From now on, go in support of the tailless (10) HENCEFORTH
DeleteI took it as:
From= defn
now on=hence
in support= for
the tailless=the-e
But is From: Henceforth?
DeleteI had the same doubt as Raghu, and henceforth = from now on. Not sure that 'from' alone is sufficient as the definition and 'go' would have no role?
DeleteI thought may be 'go' was a typo for 'so' (=hence)
Hopefully Gridman will clarify.
Raghu R for Regiment is in the list of single letter indicators available with crossword compiler, but I haven't seen it in Chambers or ODE.
DeleteI thought of the typo angle, but it doesn't fit in the wordplay.
DeleteIf it's "so," wordplay fits, but surface doesn't work
DeleteOops! That's what I meant.
DeleteThe photo of these revolutionaries will bring to our mind that the clue (or part thereof) “Revolutionary” with 3 letters can refer, closer home, to a revolutionary other than “Che”.
ReplyDeleteIncidently, not only does Che’s photo appear in TH today it is present in the above post too...
go = hence
ReplyDeleteHence (interj) has the archaic meaning of begone! away! (used imperatively for 'depart')

ReplyDeleteDefn = From now on
ReplyDeletego = HENCE
in support of = FOR
the tailless = TH[-e]
Col, isn't 6d (Mars)(h)?
ReplyDeleteThat's right.
DeleteThanks.
DeleteHere comes Gridman(once again) and my score jumps from yesrday's 60% to 97% today !!
ReplyDeleteMissed out 13A. A case of 99 run out !!! A nice puzzle, no doubt.
Samosa day!
ReplyDeleteGood morning all - beri-beri nice one, to-day!!
Ref 10A.
ReplyDeleteRemember the famous quotation attributed to Lord Acton (1887): "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." He went on to write, "Great men are almost always bad men!"
Absolutism is also used to refer to the theory that holds values, principles, etc., to be absolute and not relative, dependent, or changeable. Ethicists frequently debate on whether absolutism or relativism is right in a given situation.
Just came back home.
ReplyDeleteThe solution HENCEFORTH has been explained above.
'Hence' is an interjection meaning 'go, away'
Another such word that also means 'go' is 'avaunt'.
A study of Shakespeare in my college days comes in handy at times.
Simple and straightforward from Gridman..
ReplyDeleteHenceforth reminded me of Kenya' ex- president's tautological exhortation that reeked of 10 Across: "" From now on henceforth, I will not tolerate any rebels in the party "". I had mentioned this here earlier.
Greetings to all compatriots on India's Independence day !!
Enjoyed the pre-independence special of Gridman, far away from home. Missing home and the Landmark Quiz at Chennai! The moment I saw Gridman out of turn, I knew there has to be something special, but still missed the Nina.
