  11. 16D: I didn't get why "cake" should mean SET.

    Otherwise, an enjoyable puzzle, as always, from Dr. X.

    A correction to the explanation given above: it should be ITCH (for "eagerness"), not ITCHES.

  13. Can someone please explain how to get ‘base’ in 10 A and ‘Rete’ in 20 D?

      base (something) on a particular principle, idea, or feeling.
      "a society founded on the highest principles of religion and education"


      Rete is a medical term for network of vessels (click on the link provided by Col)
