Anitya must be disappointed, except for Bhavan we all missed out on yesterday's Nina which was 'Hi, here comes another setter'

ReplyDelete8 - Navy's main strength (3,5) - SEA POWER [CD]
I'd consider this a charade with main = sea and strength = power
11 - Currently rejection meets with a shock, reportedly (8) - NOWADAYS {NOW}{A}{DAYS}(~daze) Anno for 'NOW' not clear
Rejection = No
With = W
Oh se aha! Thanks. I was at my wits end.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bhavan
ReplyDelete11 - Currently rejection meets with a shock, reportedly (8) - NOWADAYS {NOW}{A}{DAYS}(~daze) Anno for 'NOW' not clear
ReplyDeleteCould it be
~(no way) (daze)
It used to be written as now-a-days.
ReplyDeleteIs it nowadays taken as a single word?
Should the enu be 3-1-4 or 8?
I was under the same impression and in fact write it as a 3-1-4. But Chambers and ODE confirm that it is an 8 letter word.
DeleteThanks,Bhavan
ReplyDeleteHad Anitya managed to get in J and Z, the setter would have had a Pangram!
ReplyDeleteI endorse Bhavan's views. I enjoyed today's puzzle.
ReplyDeleteImagine coming up with a NINA on debut !! ( I think no one expected).I like the crisp easy,fluent style, particularly not trying to go overboard in an attempt to be dramatic in the opener. In short, I would like to look forward to more in future.
ReplyDeleteOne more point- encouraging enough for amateurs like me. I was able to nearly complete- generally I find it difficult not only when a new setter is up but also the first one of a series. It is a level playing field between the setter & solver.
ReplyDeletei fully agree with this view as an ordinary solver...happened early with cryptonite and arden also...but the style seems to be a combination of mover and spiffytrix. look forward for more enlightenment.
DeleteI liked it. In fact I liked it much better than yesterday's one. Yesterday's one somehow reminded me of Anit*, ya. Of course, you know who I am talking about. Just take the a in the quartet and put it at the end...
ReplyDeleteA nit? Ya!
DeleteAnother thing, apart from the Nina yesterday. Anitya had STARTING BLOCK right in the middle of the first crossie
ReplyDeleteThank Heavens, it wasn't a stumbling block!
Delete9 - Across - There is spelling mistake. In CROSSWORDS it could be disastrous.
ReplyDeleteAnd, today it would have been a Pangram but for J and Z! Good going.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or has the number of typos and printer's devils increased of late in the Hindu (and not just THC)?
ReplyDeleteWhither copy-editors??
Kishore,
ReplyDeleteThat was neat !
