  1. Another good puzzle. I'm beginning to like Anitya's style.

    8 - Navy's main strength (3,5) - SEA POWER [CD]

    I'd consider this a charade with main = sea and strength = power

    11 - Currently rejection meets with a shock, reportedly (8) - NOWADAYS {NOW}{A}{DAYS}(~daze) Anno for 'NOW' not clear

    Rejection = No
    With = W

  4. It used to be written as now-a-days.
    Is it nowadays taken as a single word?
    Should the enu be 3-1-4 or 8?

    1. I was under the same impression and in fact write it as a 3-1-4. But Chambers and ODE confirm that it is an 8 letter word.

  5. Had Anitya managed to get in J and Z, the setter would have had a Pangram!

  6. I endorse Bhavan's views. I enjoyed today's puzzle.

  7. Imagine coming up with a NINA on debut !! ( I think no one expected).I like the crisp easy,fluent style, particularly not trying to go overboard in an attempt to be dramatic in the opener. In short, I would like to look forward to more in future.

  8. One more point- encouraging enough for amateurs like me. I was able to nearly complete- generally I find it difficult not only when a new setter is up but also the first one of a series. It is a level playing field between the setter & solver.

    1. i fully agree with this view as an ordinary solver...happened early with cryptonite and arden also...but the style seems to be a combination of mover and spiffytrix. look forward for more enlightenment.

  9. I liked it. In fact I liked it much better than yesterday's one. Yesterday's one somehow reminded me of Anit*, ya. Of course, you know who I am talking about. Just take the a in the quartet and put it at the end...

  10. Another thing, apart from the Nina yesterday. Anitya had STARTING BLOCK right in the middle of the first crossie

  11. 9 - Across - There is spelling mistake. In CROSSWORDS it could be disastrous.

  12. And, today it would have been a Pangram but for J and Z! Good going.

  13. Is it just me or has the number of typos and printer's devils increased of late in the Hindu (and not just THC)?

    Whither copy-editors??
