    1. hmmm .. Now I understand how "often" has been re-purposed to mean "regularly"

    2. Like 'rare' is used as an anagram ind.

    3. rare = lightly cooked seems to be a valid anagram indicator. Am i missing something ?

      My point above was often = regularly ( in the sense of frequently and not in the sense of a pattern ), but I have seen it used to pick alternate letters. Just like how I think student became L (Student = Learner = L)

    4. I did not connect rare with often. Just a comment abt its use. Rare as 'unusual' for an anagrind, I meant.

  8. 2 Want central rulers as a pointer (6) NEEDLE {NEED}{ruLErs}

    As 'rulers' is in plural isn't 'a pointer' incorrect?

    Can't make out the meaning here:

    5 Time for work, eschewing sin with rubber (6) ERASER

  12. Re. 2Dn, Raghu had said: As 'rulers' is in plural isn't 'a pointer' incorrect?

    Other words would have fitted the purpose like POLEAX or SCLERA.

    In any case, Arden's effort to vary from the monontonous 'the French' is welcome. Recently, we had the 'Nice article' (in Shuchi's blog).
