    Poorest - LEAST
    Pounds - L
LEAST - L = EAST = One of the Bridge Players

  2. Rengaswamy,

My question is why is Pound in plural.

    1. Agreed. But even Pounds also we represent as L and not as LS or Ls. So this clue looks okay for surface reading.

    2. Absolutely.

Pounds or Pound is represented by L.

So setters use either to get the letter L.

When it comes to our currency, we use Rs. when it is plural, but if we are talking about a rupee - if we can at all, in these days of inflation, it's Re.
