ReplyDeleteChambers treats it as a single word.

ReplyDelete19d: EAR+THEN
Thanks again, Shrikanth
ReplyDelete16a: C(L)OW+N. Why 'you'?
ReplyDeleteStrictly speaking not needed. Used as a connector for better surface reading
DeleteThen you could have had the full stop after twit and comma after first.
DeleteI hope you don't mind my voicing my view.
Not patronizing.
Absolutely no issues Raghu. Any lesson taken gleefully :)
Delete4 Mock good man by hugging an idot (6)

Deepak Sir, Your ans 1 a may have to be read as 1 D, I suppose

24 Nurse admits setter excluding a moron (5) NANNY - sub A for I in ninny?
Also 1A is left
ReplyDeleteSorry!
ReplyDelete24d is NINNY
sub I for A in nanny.
Good clue where there is a dilemma as to which is def and which is sub fodder. But of course the answer is a theme word.
CV Sir: 11 A already solved.
ReplyDelete27a State of being plump, decompose off to state a being undressed (6)
ReplyDeleteNUDITY
delete ROT from ROTUND ...
sorry the anno doesn't come quickly to me.
is there any typo in the clue? should it be 'to a state of being undressed'? Now, NY is State. How does it work, please?
This 9a - has anyone got it? A four-letter word still defying!
ReplyDeleteMy mouse is acting funny and it does havoc with black and white cells in the grid on my app.
ReplyDeleteEach click has double-click effect.
27A: I think the anno is {ROTUNDITY-(-rot)}*
ReplyDeleteThanks, Vasant.
Delete16a Only now after looking at clues/sols I understand the exchanve between Raghu and AD.
ReplyDeleteIt is OK here in fun run. But -
If I were the crossword editor I will want it to be rewritten. As the CWD is a game of two players and when the setter refers to him'herself as I or me, 'you' is the party of the second as PGW would say. So You twit looks like insulting the reader/solver.
12a 17d - are these solved?
ReplyDeleteYet to be finished. Some two-three clues remain.
Delete12A: MAGNE(-t)S(I) A, MAGNESIA
ReplyDelete17D: {LATE}{RAN} , Lateran Palace , the previous residences of the Popes
14D: VOWELISED , to provide ( a Hebrew, Arabic etc text ) with vowel points
These are the only 2 left
ReplyDelete12a and 17d too are solved. Too? OK, OK, the usage is correct.
DeleteAlongwith the elusive 4 letter word of 9 A!
ReplyDeleteSo, my dear AD, how many jokers are in your pack?
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of doing a thematic exactly like this but thank god I didn't. Else, you would have anticipated me!
I think it's time we begin to set puzzles where the theme is not obvious!
9a: -w +D(ORK): foolish person.
ReplyDeleteI had filled in a duplicate answer, so I'm compensating for it.
What sort if clue is this? D comes from Dunce also the def.
DeleteI have now got 9a!
ReplyDeleteWill leave it to someone else.
Are letter sub fodder and def combined in that clue?
Raghu - You and I crossed - er - I mean...
ReplyDelete:-)
DeleteNice CW today AD. Felt there was on too many of the substituting type clue. But that is fine.
ReplyDeleteVery enjoyable.
As long as I was thinking of TASK (assignment), how would I get the answer? Hence the delay. And then the DD - er - I mean... double duty element.
ReplyDeleteApologies to one & all for making a hash of counting the leftovers.A very good puzzle by AD for AFD!
ReplyDeleteMay I ask AD or DG to carry a filled-in grid w/ the fools highlighted. Let them have their day!
ReplyDeleteYour wish is granted
DeleteThanks AD, for a nice crossword.
ReplyDeleteThanks AD for making fools of us on a Sunday.
ReplyDeleteWhat is left for April 1?
DeleteA gathering of those blokes, perhaps?
DeleteDeepak
ReplyDeleteFor a Sunday special in the future, let's have a community CWD.
I will contribute a filled-in grid.
Clue writing will be by members of this blog.
Volunteers have to send a mail to chaturvasi{at}yahoo{dot}com
As there may be 30 clues, I need thirty volunteers. One member will write one clue each. If there are fewer volunteers, clues will be distributed pro rata and any left-overs I will tackle.
I will assign clues to voluntary clue-writers and do the rest of the work. All are welcome including Venkatesh who, if interested, may write to me.
Credit will be in general terms with names disclosed but not which clue who. In the email indicate the byline you want if it is not your real name.
I am expecting the Col's approval.
Approval for such initiatives are not required. Let me be the 1st volunteer.
DeleteThanks.
DeleteNB: Volunteers may express their willingness here but for me to assign clues, each must send an email to the ID given above with THCCCC in the subject line.
Deepak: explore if there is a possibility of a post on this being the first of two in Blogger for some time regularly so those who do not visit today and non-posters will know.
I always like following you! So count me in as second.
DeleteCV@3.57-
DeleteI suggest Col./ Kishore can put it in the byline tomorrow so that nobody will miss it.
Me too
DeleteMissed this . Was on a devotional trip to Kanchi
ReplyDeleteSo you were not fooled today?!
DeleteThank you AD and thanks to all those who made it very lively today.
ReplyDeleteI'm in for the clue writing contest.
ReplyDeleteMe too
DeleteToday I could'nt participate :( (Was busy with tomorrow's Ugadhi preparations ) Will try the xword when I find time .
ReplyDelete@CV Sir , Please count me in the clue writing . Thanks !
Coming in late and wondering how AD could have missed an obvious entry for this themed puzzle. But then, he probably did not want proper names!
ReplyDeleteI am in for the clue writing. I think some have got a feeling that it is a contest from above responses and that they may be wrong. CV may confirm.
The joint effort can come under a byline like Poupourri or Smorgasbord!
Contest was never mentioned, Kishore. CV started it by saying community CW. All of us bored eager souls always looking something exciting. Re. your opening comment at 5.02, if he wanted to accommodate Proper names, there are better contenders!
ReplyDeleteAs said a couple of days back, Paddy, politics is out of bounds here ;-)
DeleteContest was mentioned by Raghu at 424 and Ajeesh expressed his 'Me too' thereafter. Hence, I wanted to clarify that CV's proposal was not a contest.
Delete:-( I m game not for contest
DeleteKishore!6.02-
DeleteI did not have politics in mind this time!
My apologies. I didn't think it was a contest. I wrote without thought and more such errors occur when blogging through my mobile phone.
DeleteI am not contesting your statement as I am a victim myself! WIth iPad.
DeleteI am consciously keeping myself away from smartphone.
Look here -
ReplyDeleteI have clearly stated above that volunteers must send consents to my email ID given above.
They may mention their interest here but that alone won't do.
Only if I receive an email with THCCCC in subject line can I send clues when progress is made.
I may know the email IDs of some of the volunteers above but I can keep track only if I receive consent by email from volunteer with the relevant subject line.
THCCCC stands for The Hindu Crossword Corner Community Crossword. So this abbr. of Community Crossword must be in the subjectline.
So far I have recd two.
read: this abbr. or Community Crossword (or similar) must be in the subject line.
DeleteTHCCCC is not a contest. It is a participatory crossword.
DeleteVolunteers send me the clues and I produce the CWD that the Col can put up. It is for solving by members - volunteers will know answers only to their clues. For non-volunteers everything is new as the other Sunday Specials.
It's a great idea, CV. It will also keep the Col's Sunday Special series going even when there is a shortage from Newbies or Veterans.
DeleteThis is a one-off exercise from me.
DeleteThis is not a novel, original idea. Such crosswords have appeared in international forums and I have participated in UK, US and Aus exercises.
I am only doing it here. I proposed it and so I am managing it this time to put the CWD together.
Its regularity will depend upon others pursuing the venture and also level of participation from volunteers.
At around 8 p.m., I have six volunteers.
ReplyDeleteSome more may join, so the quota is reduced in a puzzle of say 28/30 clues.
Read my posts above for details.
Any volunteer who sends mail to me gets an ack - words to be clued will be sent later when the grid is filled and allotment is made.
ReplyDeleteMy aim is to have 15 so each gets to write just two clues.
Now I have six, besides the Col.
I would like to participate too. The list so far:
DeleteDeepak
Padmanabhan
Prashanth Sai
Raghunath
Ajeesh
Lakshmi Vaidyanathan
Kishore
Bhavan
To that list add
DeleteSowmya
Vasant
Richard
Ramesh (Sunnet)
Ram
So now I have 13 volunteers. Just two more and I can start my work of gridfills and allotment of two clues per volunteer.
Ajeesh is yet to send his email request to me, I think.
I have sent ack to all the others.
THCCCC has one C more than CCCP
ReplyDeleteСою́з Сове́тских Социалисти́ческих Респу́блик
That entity has seen multiple fragmentation years ago!
DeleteDo we call this Reverse Crossword Engineering? ;-)
