  1. 18a is a problem. If it is an anagram how is the S removed. If cult is not a part of the anagram fodder then it should be outside, not inside

    1. 18D: Just 'cult code' might have been better?

  2. Even Code cult's would work

  3. Enjoyed solving this easier puzzle...some nice clues...especially liked TV DINNER, MARXIST..ABOMASUM was a new word...

  4. Rumi reminded me of Ghani Kashmiri a poet from Kashmir who wrote in Persian & Ghalib believed him to be the best poet of India(he believed Mir was a greatest Urdu poet of India)

  6. Marxist is the spoiler.
Put in 'Afterwards' for 6D and wasted a lot of time.
An enjoyable outing to start the week. Thank you AD.

  7. Handle apostrophes with care is the lesson from 18D.

  8. 16D Can "made" used in the position it is be a valid anagram indicator? What do others think?

  9. Interesting one from AD today.. though with some queries. Occulted is a bit off but presume typo. In Enshrines not sure Guards is a good def - and is nurse = EN? In Chattel...why is broadcast = L? In behaved is experience = have? Abomasum a new word.. tks for the knowledge. Total laughs for 24d :) and do think Marxist too has a steamy surface :) but I just adore Contrives as a word. reminds me of a character in a historical novelette i used to read - whose personal motto was "i Contrive" ! And how he contrived :) Happy Monday and have a fun week folks,,,

    1. EN - Enrolled Nurse
Broadcast = TELL, when detailed = TEL
      Experience = Have

    2. Answering SriVidya's doubt about the validity of Guards as a definition. Enshrine does mean protect or guard. Like the Fundamental Rights enshrined in the Constitution.

      Incidentally, where is Kishore?

    3. Srividya @9:56 : Long time since I came across the Viscount of Barham.

  10. C(RE)EPERS- Would this make it any better? "CREPE"* collecting RE.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I meant (CREPE)* collecting RE.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Wrong again- (Crepes)* collecing Re.
But Re in stead of Rs. is fine, though it means Rupee in singular?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Chattel- Detailed broadcast is (Tell- l)
Enshrines- (Shine= buff) nursing R followed by S(unday)

    1. Paddy. Whichever way you look at it there is an anagramming of Crepes. My only point was whether Made Crepes would be an adequate anagram indicator.

  14. I have a doubt about Marxist. What is the container indicator for ARX? Is it 'Is'? Though "is' works well for the surface reading, it does not seem to indicate containment.

  15. 9A : Public draw (7) OUTWARD {DRAW}*
Can we classify it as reverse angram clue since anind 'out' forms part of the answer?

  16. What does VD stand for in TV DINNER? Clap?

  17. Felt some clues such as 7 down and 16 down could be more meaningful as a solver. Otherwise a decent crossword from Afterdark

    2. I think Mahesh is talking of the surface reading not being good.

    3. I understand. Clap was used to denote Cheers. So I thought it could make a passable surface.
