If so and if we remove them, the clue suffers and makes no sense.
Why can't we see them as 'link words'.
"Be" is 'up to a climbing'. It undergoes, is ready for, doesn't mind a reversal.
The whole clue may be seen as a suggestion by one to another.
The whole clue is a meaningful sentence.
Extraneous words? Sorry, no! Extra words? Maybe.

ReplyDeleteCome to think of it, in the relevant clue the marked words are not even extra words. Remove them, the clue makes no sense. With them, the clue is a meaningful statement even as they contribute to the reversal operation.
