True to CV's style, instead of a tale there are 3 limericks today.
AVOGADRO’s theories were held to be RENEGADE
Criticized by his colleagues as being very OPAQUE
SOMETIMEs it caused him to be RANKLED
But he dealt with them all EVEN HANDED
He dismissed them all from their posts, EN MASSE
Bolvar, the PALADIN, a hunter and Charlemagne’s peer
Became FOOTSORE while TRAVERSing for DEER
He rested his BREECH, tired of the drill
Little he knew, he’d sat on an ANTHILL
FOR GOODNESS’S SAKE, he had a very sore REAR
TROPIC of Cancer was a novel by Henry Miller
Banned by prudes as being not quite PROPER
In defence he said “please ABSTAIN
From reading it; WHITE ANTS‘ll gain"
In lurid fiction genre it became quite a killer
100% and very fast at that.
ReplyDeleteThank you Gridman

ReplyDelete(Party is RAVE, I presume party animals are ravers , is the assumption correct ? )
Is bad a reversal indicated in bad set.
DeleteBad is the anagram indicator so the anno will be {T{RAVERS}ES*}

ReplyDeleteShall we celebrate Limericks day?
ReplyDeleteIt was a grind for me but enjoyed it immensely. Felt highly satisfied on completion. I feel crosswords teach us not to take words for granted and to keep an open mind and look at words/clues from all angles. Many thanks to Gridman and all other setters for this lesson.
ReplyDeleteRequest CV (or anyone else) to say which is right? 'for goodness's sake' (as in 1D) or 'for goodness' sake'
ReplyDeleteNice picture and verse CGšš¼
ReplyDeletefor god's sake - ok.
ReplyDeletefor goodness's sake - I see yuor point. But the rule is: a word ending in two s doesn't take apo and another s because of much sibilant sound. But in writing we retain the app - for goodness' sake, the princess' ornament, the actress' maid
Thanks CV sir for enlightening on goodness & princess.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Learning never stops.
