Too many cryptic definitions today looks more like an easy crossword rather than a cryptic one, as such I am stuck on 28A, 19D and 22D. Thanks toJohn from the Orkut community for the answers to the ones I never got, seeing the answers I dont think I would ever have got 28A and 19D

28 - Ascetic sect from all quarters, except west? (7)ESSENES
What's the Anno in above clues?
8 - Summarise study twice on two points (8) - CON{DEN}S{E}
Here Con and Den refer to Study [twice] and S & E refer to two points. Is this right? If so then you answer should have been CON{DEN}{S}{E}? Not pointing out a mistake but only trying to understand.
In yesterday's THC:
28 - Bond, given in welcome, set about the guys! (9) - AGREE{MEN}T
Given in welcome= GREET, guys = MEN, A=?
15 - Ran on time to sit in a conveyance across a distance (7) - T{RAN}SI<-T
Time = IST as in Indian Std. Time? But why reversal? Is the clue framed satisfactorily?
Hi Raghunath,
ReplyDelete14A = TEN{A}NT
Number = TEN
One = A
Book = NT(New Testament)
28A ESSENES is formed using all quarters ie only N,S&E North, South and East. The answer is an ascetic sect.
8D Not putting z bracket around the S is a typo thanks for pointing it out
Of course todays CW has been a bit of a disappointment there has been discussion about it over in an Orkut community as well.
As regards yesterday
A in agreement is superfluous
IST is not being reversed or used at all
Ran on time = RAN T
Sit in a conveyance across I presumed was SIT being anagrammed so I read it as = TSI* I used the wrong indicator <-
