  1. It is a literary term.
    What's the word to describe something by a term that might not ambarass someone?
    Suppose instead of saying 'latrine' or 'lavatory', you say 'rest room'?
    Suppose instead of saying 'one died' you say 'one passed away'?

  3. It is in your COD or any beginner's dict.
    In an earlier THC it was clued as
    That’s a nice way of expressing a dirty thing (9)
    Before it's disclosed just run a letter run through in the mind for the letter between the first and the third - instead of X that you have rightly guessed.
