  1. Col,

    2 - Worker’s up, taking in dress for Indian empress (7) - T{SARI}NA.

    How could the answer be Tsarina, when it is a Russian Empress? Should not Indian in the clue have come befor dress?

    24 - Used horse roughly to perform household tasks (6) - C{HORES*}

    How does C figure?
    6 - Ever at party to eat away! (5) - ER{OD}E

    Why is Party OD?
    21 - Man in the Dutch capital was seated

    Man= RON?

    3 - Where the hammer should hit without delay (2,3,4) - ON THE NAIL

    If it is Hit the nail on the head, then the 'Without delay' is redundant. I thought he meant Iron as in striking it when it is hot.

  2. Worker's up = TNA<-
    taking in
    dress for indian = SARI
    Empress = T{SARI}NA

    Not very clear myself about the link between 'C' and 'used'

    A DO is a party howevr the reversal indicator is not there I have mentioned it in the body of blog as well

    Hit the nail on the head is a phrase which is used to indicate that the answer is absolutely correct, ON THE NAIL is a fallout from that phrase

  3. c, ca = circa = about = roughly

  4. As far as I know this is the first time a clue writer is using 'roughly' for C. The use of 'about' for C is universal.

  5. Col,
    I have figured out how to get the word verification image and post comments in this blog!

  6. Chaturvasi
    C has not been used(sic) for roughly but for used. Roughly is indicating that HORSE is to be anagrammed.
    Congrats on your figuring out how to post here

  7. I think the clue works better if we take roughly = C, and read the clue this way for the anagram: "Used [letters of HORSE+C] to [form a word for household tasks]"
