ReplyDelete15a in the Quickie today is BRIGHT, almost at the same spot in the grid.
Continuing from yesterday:
ReplyDeleteDump the Italian in an Indian river and get some food(6)
Sandy and Suresh should have got it:
MUESLI* (MUSI + EL)
I thought of it, but the Italian should be IL not EL
DeleteKishore,
ReplyDeleteDid you mean 'Spanish' when you used 'Italian'?
'the' in Spanish is EL
'the' in Italian is IL
Right, Rajan. Also there seems to be no proper Aind.
DeleteToday's Guardian cryptic in the original stable has a brand-new setter. I see sexual imagery in Clue 1dn.
ReplyDelete19A-
ReplyDeleteWhen "we hear" is in the middle which way does it go? I filled in as 'brighten' (heard as Brighton)
With the homophone indicator appearing in the middle, the solution can go either way.
DeleteUntil Sankalak drops in to clarify which one he meant or we see the solution tomorrow, both are right. I went with brighten too.
The clue may work out this way: MUS(IL)I
ReplyDeleteSwiss Musili is an appetizer.
I thought of Musili too but was left wondering what it was

ReplyDeleteGood to see another blogger from Vizag. Do call so we can meet. My email is dorbala@yahoo.com
DeletePeople saying they finish in 5 minutes. I cannot write that fast. It takes me 15 minutes on the cycle to finish the first 2 R's
ReplyDelete19 Ac. "Brighten" is the solution. Though the homophone may work either way, with the commas in place, I think the clue is more suggestive of "brighten". But it is a matter of opinion.
ReplyDeleteSankalak
I had BRIGHTEN from the wordplay
DeleteFinishing yesterday's answers. after Bhavan's ARMADA.
ReplyDeleteThe Supreme Power without ego in river (7)BRAHMAN (-i)
Apropos a flower without the oomph back in Surat(3) (-t)APT(-i)
Will anyone clarify phonetically how to spell and pronounce Muesli? MWESLI? Musli? Ushili?(an Indian Kichdi?)
ReplyDeleteIn any case. I enjoy both Muesli, Tamil(?) Ushili and Marathi Paasv Usaal and Misal!!
I am missing out in the participation until Monday next. Grrh!!
MU as in greek letter 'MU' or 'MOO' (both pronunciations valid it seems)
DeleteSLI as in 'SLEEP'
I knew--moo--moo( as Mumtaz was known) and silly of me.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed today's crossie. Did not finish the entire puzzle though.
ReplyDeleteI love Sankalak's puzzles especially for clues like 12d. (BOW)
