Because of pressure on time, could complete only in part. Liked GENRE, ANNUL, SIFTS, EARDRUM, CANTONESE, TUSSLE, FEVER and the like.

From yesterday, @ Deepak, Rengaswamy and CV - I will get back later during the day. Sorry I was away yesterday and could not respond.

  2. 1a made me remember with fondness, Arden's remark about 'stealing his clue', when I mentioned to Dave that he need Luck now.

Excellent run from Arden. Loved the pictures today.

  3. Two famous pictures GODFATHER and SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, the former with Marlon Brando and the latter with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John came into the picture today. Got the picture? Recent clue. :)

24A - A friendly crib - are GALL and GAL homophones?

3D - Nice pun with dough and homophone with kneads.

14D - Thank Goodness, the legendary 'support' did not come in here. Would have had many comments. Ahem!...

25D - M(onsieur)+SURE* - Sumer did not flash at all! Kicking myself.

  6. Had luck to start with, but could not sustain it though. My filled (?) grid looked like a pock marked face, though I kicked myself after going through the blog. Not my day, I presume. But enjoyed the ones I could do.

It ('support') comes more from Gridman than anybody else

  9. It was difficult one for me. I had to slog to get gall stone, ash-blonde & brasserie. All clues today were of the type where I either got the solution immediately or it took a very long time. Over all another good one from Arden.

    Today's crossword was

Spin must be strong enough to withstand adverse conditions (5)

  12. Ramesh and Col:
I found the format of the puzzle posted by Ramesh to be excellent for online solving and saving. I feel very left out when I don't have the grid of the Hindu on line and wait for the night or the next day to get my cutting to solve on paper, as I do not buy the Hindu. I find the paper too drab and lifeless, except for the two crosswords.Deepak, can we try and see whether we can introduce the same format of Ramesh into our blog so that I can solve the puzzles online pronto and also actively participate in the interactions? I miss out on a lot of fun being deprived of that, though many may feel that I suffer from verbose-iarrhea and occupy a lot of space here. Please do consider and I wonder what our other bloggers feel. I do the Herald from Scotland crossword regularly on line.

Again, I have a peculiar problem while keying in. Unbeknownst to me, the caps get locked ( by my hitting it accidentally) and before I could realize , I have already typed a whole sentence! How to avoid this
or rectify it easily, instead of erasing the whole and re -keying? Any help will be a boon, as this does irritate me and impede my thought flow process !!HELP !!

    1. Your best bet would be to wait for Hindu to go online with their crossword. I notice that Guardian has gone online so may be Hindu would someday.

    2. Raju,

An application allready exists on Facebook as well as Orkut wherein you can solve the Hindu crossword online, if you are member of Facebook or on Orkut you can access those apps. The app works for all days except Sundays when the grid does not appear online, however the Sunday CW of the Hindu is available on the Guardian website.

Can we find a way of posting the late night comments for the next day as most of them go unnoticed and hence unresponded? As of now, I copy-paste and post the next day. I am a nocturnal bird and prefer posting my comments late. What are the 'active' working hours of our fellow-bloggers? This is to ensure more participants and fillip to the blog. Please do consider.

    Re your CapsLock prob. See

    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,1843282,00.asp

if there is an answer here. I have not tested it and its useflness may depend a lot on OS, browser and God knows what.

    Also see (the same thing)

    http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/63932-caps-lock-alert/

A simple solution is when you realise the mistake, copy-paste the typed matter in Wordpad where you can use 'Change Case' option to make it all l/c. Copy paste this matter in Blogger text box and now it's just a question of putting in u/c where required or just leave it all in l/c.

Nine years ago - yes, nine years ago - and at other times later including when the new Editor took over I suggested that we must have an interactive version of the crossword but I don't see it happening at all. I don't have any hope on it.

Raju - we can create an interactive version of the published crossword but it requires some work (grid creation, typing the clues in required format) and also a website where it can be uploaded. Besides, there is also the question of infringement of copyright.

Why aren't you using The Hindu Crossword app that is available on Orkut -with which you can do the THC interactively?

With iPad, iPhone and such things you can do it after installing a store-bought app.

    On CapsLock prob, again

I believe there is a freeware which, if we d/l and install, will disable the capslock key.

I suggest that you get technical support from some computer whizkid so that it can be done safely (if at all) on your machine.

  18. Sowndar,

After you log into Orkut, click on the 'Add applications' link under 'Applications', search for The Hindu Crossword and add it after you find it.
