Milking the cat reminded me of Lord Ayappan and tiger’s milk
Hi all
ReplyDeleteLiked the crossword.
NOSTRUMS, WRENS, TURNPIKES, BOTANY, NEOLITH, PANIC, ESCAPADES, SPROCKETS, ULTRA, BOMBARD, FRILL, SHERPA, SWEETENER, RISEN, IMPROMPTU, PASSBOOK, CRANKCASE (too good!), OFFAL, SAD, POLLY and others were good.
30A will for sure invite (instigate?) comments.
1D - Someone will say 'Assante Sana' (thank you very much) for using a Swahili word in the clue.
Karibu
DeleteRe my post 8:30 am
Delete21A - I had first put in BOMBARD, then changed it to BOMBAST to accommodate DESERT FOX. Missed changing it in the list. Pls read it as BOMBAST.
Nice crossword, which read quite smoothly. Easier than some of the other setters, but good for today as I have to dash off on an escapade!
ReplyDelete10a This is a DD.
ReplyDeleteThe Women's Royal Naval Service (WRNS), the women's branch of the Royal Navy, is popularly and officially known as the Wrens.
Today's crossword was mostly:
ReplyDeletePuzzle for man wandering around Indian city (7)
Anagram
DeleteIt has to be ANAGRAM !
DeleteRight right as a bus conductor would say
DeleteCall me nuts, but I liked crankcase !
ReplyDeleteYes, I too changed from Bombard to Bombast.
Much easier than I expected from Incognito. All fell in fairly fast, though I started late after watching Del Porto getting defeated.
ReplyDeleteRe 5A, While I was not sure, I decided that "kicked" is the option to pick. Watering the plants indicates care, and kicking the cat connotes the opposite - and hence it is crazy logic (or so I rationalized).
ReplyDeleteI leave it to others to decide how crazy is this logic...
Gave water to plant = watered
DeleteGave milk to cat = milked
:-)
Yes, Milked seems right.
DeleteCan understand your logic, but need to get into the setter's mind! Had me fixed for a minute.
ReplyDeletePlease read 'foxed' for 'fixed', above.
ReplyDeleteUsually cat licks everything it likes,so i licked the cat!
ReplyDeleteAfter I watered the plants, I licked the cat!
Smooth. Thanks Incognito.
ReplyDeleteNobody wants to swing the cat at the setter for this clue?
ReplyDeleteMilked with Nagesh's crazy logic seems to be the same as Incognito's.
ReplyDelete23A, crazy shoes. It's like walking on tiptoes.
ReplyDelete6 Without preparation, I’m on time, you hear? (8) IMPROMPTU
ReplyDeleteplease change 8 to 9. :)
Thanks to CV sir and Col, managed to download today's crossword on Orkut, despite three attempts earlier that were unavailing. I still prefer the pen on paper solving as there is an emotional mental block to divorce the poor pen from the paper. As much as one would love to receive letters from one's loved ones from a postman's knock, than emailing each other. How steeped are we in the good ol' days, when we have the modern technology at our finger tips-- can it bring the lovers' lips together, however?Orkut is a nostrum , tho'!! The crossword page facing you also hides your face from your spouse , isn't it?
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the online solving as it is quite orderly and systematic. Today's was full of unusual words and phrases. I lied the CRANK CASE and DESERT FOX -- very foxy, as we have only heard of DESERT RATS !!
Seems to be SANKALAKs prodigy.
ReplyDeleteYou mean protege, I presume
DeleteHi All,
ReplyDeleteThanks to all those who liked it and those who didn't. I know there is enough milk of human kindness sloshing inside all of you to forgive my little transgressions. It was amusing to see all the things that people wanted to do to cats. Erwin Rommel was my Incognito clue for this puzzle, with his nickname 'Desert Fox'. Glad to note that 30a did not invite the expected comment, though this clue was solved on The Hub by the expected commenter/commentator.
It is so heartening to observe more members getting into active discussion. There is always safety in numbers.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, the apple of everyone's EYE was missing.
