  2. 21d A Greek island in difficulty with cash-strapped Government (6) ITHACA

I think this is a telescopic clue, with 'a' missing in the fodder.letter sequence.

    1. As CV notes, fff, it should have been 'with a cash'

    2. That was how it was submitted

  4. While tackling 7D, I took "Old man" as definition and failed to get the answer. Of course, 27A too was printed beside 7D. Learnt definition is in 27A. A common definition shown in one place, for two clues, one Across and one Down ! A new thing to me. Perhaps, had I solved first 27A, then 7D would have become much easier to solve !

  5. Very nice, some lovely clues, liked 18A and 2D a lot

  6. Arden, though nice with surfaces mostly, is quite generous when it comes to padding - for instance. 2D where "will" is not part of wordplay, "is" in 9A etc.

    1. Why? Even yesterday, it was so?

Where have all the bloggers gone? Searching for onion at cheaper rates?

  8. Why no comments at all about Laurence Olivier? With that inimitable smile and a charming, suave old man ? Wasn't he also a good dancer?

  9. MINCE & GROUND: Isn't it more common to mince the meat and grind a grain? Or is it that my brain is all minced up and my mind is ground up?

GOLDEN PARACHUTE is the clue of my day. It took me quite some time floating with the letters in my mind for this anagram until I finally opened up and crash-landed !!

ARDEN is getting to be harder and harder even for ardent solvers !
