AD, as this an across clue 'on the outskirts of Guntur', would have been better as 'at' does not indicate the position.

DeletePoint taken Raghu. Thanks ..
DeleteRajan, the original clue was 'Dog ate and danced with ecstasy on the outskirts of Guntur'. I am seeing the mistake now and it would have most likely occurred when creating the Acroslite version. My mistake. Apologies.
Anytime, AD. As the theme is concerning setters (albeit of a different breed), just some well intentioned advice, from one to the other -:)

DeleteFollowing this from Chandigarh. Such a lovely city. And had a wonderful darshan last night at the Golden Temple. What an impressive temple.
ReplyDeleteGolden Temple at Chandigarh !!
Delete:) I took a trip last evening from Chandigarh to Amritsar
DeleteVisit Durgiana temple too for a feeling of deja vu
DeleteMissed it Kishore. I left CHD by 5 pm. Got caught in a traffic jam. Reached Amritsar by 10.30. Spent 2 hours at Golden Temple and drove back to CHD . Reached 5 am. Everything was closed at that time. Just had a look at Jallianwala Bhag from the outside. Stole some time in between 2 days of Property Fair we are doing here.
DeleteAs of now, there are 4 dogs that are not let out yet :)

This is a Double Definition.
DeleteDog = Englishsetter
the likes of Everyman and Rufus, atleast one of them = English setter
(given @8.35 above)
Venkatesh that is some detective work. I don't remember seeing Gita's full name anywhere.
DeleteShrikanth the enumeration of 29A should have been (7,6)
DeleteGita Balakrishnan is not new here she has commented before
DeleteShe says she is new here at, 2.17?
DeleteMay be she is Geeta Who, who appeared sometime back on this blog !
Delete...oops ! Typo : PS read Gita for Geeta !! Can't make out who is who !!! All confusion !!!!
DeleteTechie question
ReplyDeleteI use Chrome. After having giving permission to a website to launch Javascript or engine every time that website is visited, how does one revoke it so that permission is given only when needed?
Maybe another question: how do I stop the permission-seeking box to pop up each time I visit this site when the page is still the one of two that opens.
Don't know if I should have used the word 'applet' in the above mail.
DeletePlease ignore it if it doesn't make sense.
I am also clueless here. Even checking the box that says ' please don't ask me again' is of no help.

ReplyDeleteA fascinating puzzle featuring our beloved and faithful four-legged wonders ! There were nine in all !! Happy to note, AD has included at least one of our breeds, namely COMBAI. Great show AD !
ReplyDeleteTalking about dogs, here is a quote : "If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the difference between a dog and a man." ....MARK TWAIN
Two actually . Kanni is also an Indian breed. There are two more that I know of. Chippiparai and Rajapalayam .. Couldn't fit them in.
DeleteAnd there are 10 dogs in the puzzle.
DeleteNoted :)
DeleteI could notice : Across :16,28 and 29. Down : 4,7,8,9,21 and 22. 10th one ?
Delete19A - Puli is also a breed
DeleteWell, I took it for a tiger. In Telugu 'puli' means tiger. I think in Tamil too it is the same !?
DeleteYup, it's the same in Tamil too.
DeleteWilco !
DeleteMB, your response should have been Roger meaning 'Right'. Wilco means 'Will comply'
DeleteRoger, Sir ! :)
DeleteI don't want to be seen as pulli-ng your leg, but I remembered the old chestnut : puli kaat le irukku.
ReplyDeleteThanks AD for a great puzzle
A dog-gone day!
DeleteEvery dog has his or her day. Well, at least 10 of them.
DeleteOff topic but of interest to CWD setters
ReplyDeleteI have tried Dowedo the Internet software that helps us to set crosswords. I would like to record something that I have noticed for the benefit of those who use it to submit CWDs to papers.
The clues exported from the sw often have high instances of words having run into each other.
I don't know but perhaps lines that run into two lines in the sw environment get bumped when exported.
It is advisable that users, after exporting the clues, put them in a word processor and after duly checking the edited file send it to publishers.
I would be interested to know from any Dowedo user on the process after we have set a CWD on the Internet using that sw.
Also: how is its grid bank developed? Are the blanks that we create automatically get into their collection? I know that we can store CWDs privately w/o submitting to the site for approval.
Anyone know what criteria they have for this approval? Nothing beyond ensuring no F-words are there?
If in the public domain, are the blanks of CWD saved to the bank automatically?

I've a doubt about 19 AC and 16AC. "Puli(kku)" "Mudi" irukkuma ?!
ReplyDeleteYes, there is tiger hair.

Funny thing ! A man with tiger hair on his head !! Wonder, if it's grown or painted or pasted !!!
DeleteUnable to reply at the right comments.
ReplyDeleteCV Sir, Puli is a Hungarian breed. What you are refering could be Bulli Kutta which is an Afghan breed.
And Raghu, thanks :)
Thanks.Sorry, I misunderstood.
DeleteCol @ 5.54 Yes the enu is wrong. :(
ReplyDeleteKishore @ 6.14 - Thanks :)
Not a very comfortable solving today, what with everyone singing "" who let the dogs out ?" Not a great man for Great Danes and poodles and pugs, though currently putting up with a Bugby Puggie at home of my daughter !! Very bad memories of dogs loving and tugging at my trouser-tails and losing a M-I-L to a dog bite, though she was a great dog lover . If I talk too much, fear of being put in the dog-house by three other lovers here !! Call it a dog's life? Or Love me, love my dog?
ReplyDeleteHowever, the dog that got my goat was the absence of hyphens and split up of words as all indicators were one letter words ! ENGLISH SETTER and GREAT DANE aren't two separate words or at least hyphenated ? Again, I could have never got PULI which is a Tamil dog? An English word?
Time for the Bugby here to take ME for a walk !!! Have a great week-end (ed), ye-all !! (12 noon in NY !)
