  1. Welcome Anon to the stable:

22 Praised the corrupted? Perhaps not! (8) ADULATED ADULtrATED Deletion of 'tr' not clear
Actually spelling is: ADUL(TER)ATED. Maybe anon had indicated 'er' as hesitation(perhaps), overlooking 't'.

    1. The German word for "The" is "Der". A corruption of it further could be "Ter"

  2. Could this new setter be a woman? Is there a woman among present THC setters? Cannot a pseudonym reflect the gender of a setter?

Maybe S is from 'top of steel'.

  4. Breezy puzzle. Strange a new setter comes in the middle of a cycle. Normally it doesn't happen that way.

  5. Welcome to the new setter- starting off with a nice one.
25A- I had it as 'Expedience'. Chief doctor (D) replacing initial reaping (R) with def. as suitability.
    Col.,
Samosa is just for taste and not to satisfy hunger- w.r.to his opening remarks. I missed it by a whisker!

    2. Any day I prefer a 3 course (at least 2?) meal to a snack(samosa,vadai.....) Not yet had my shave today. So really cannot call it bare- faced!

    Wise man = ST?

    1. I know but is it an accepted short form?

    2. Wise man = saint = st.
This is acceptable, though it is one step removed..
In fact, 'wise man' and similar phrases are against St in Chambers XWD dictionary.
Maybe these once-removed abbreviations are used in advanced cryptic crosswords rather than regular ones in dailies.
But this kind of categorization is unnecessary.

  10. 11 Governors capture, surround a woman leader (6) NAWABS {N{A}{W}ABS}

There is an extra S in the answer unaccounted for, as Capture = NAB.

Liked 15 a. On first reading it seemed a CD, thinking it be match or something similar.

  17. At first I thought this crossword was by an unknown poet.
    Let me explain.
Many poems in a book of story poems that my father read to me and my siblings when we were children were by Anon. I thought it was the name of a poet until my father one day told me that as the person who wrote the poem was not known, it was attributed to Anon - which is short for Anonymous.
Thus I learnt something anon and forever.
