ON = Continuously, for a long time, ceaselessly

  2. Nice surfaces, smooth (not gravelled).

  3. The solution to 29a puts me in mind of Sunny Leone.
Be it as it may and be she as she may [securely in my mind], can anyone explain the Leone part in both?

    1. As per wiki

European contacts within Sierra Leone were among the first in West Africa. In 1462, Portuguese explorer Pedro de Sintra mapped the hills surrounding what is now Freetown Harbour, naming the shaped formation Serra da Leoa or "Serra Leoa" (Portuguese for Lioness Mountains).[20] The Spanish rendering of this geographic formation is Sierra Leona, which later was adapted and, misspelled, became the country's current name.

No clues about the Sunny one :-)

'Ones' or 'one' for deletion of 'a' in the anno pl?

  7. Liked the well disguised aninds in 19A - A war 'broke out', 14D - naval 'battles' etc. Liked also the deletion ind 'boot' in 28A, so smoothly worded to go with 'golden boot', to misguide someone like me! Overall super smooth surface reading(s). Enjoyed the fare. Thanks, Vulcan.

  8. Will it become alright if 1D is worded as- "Irish luck...."?

    1. ...then it would be a give away, I think!

    2. BTW Google search for Irish LUCK is of no use! It gives something else and not CESS.

    3. So we should go with the given link LUCK and Ramesh J @ 8:36 am.

    4. It is a translation. So, there will not be a word as 'IrishLuck'.An indication to this effect will not make it easy anyway.

  9. In the redesigned website of the paper, the crossword continues to have a boxed pointer/link on the rightside bar.

Today's has not been updated as yet but what is of interest to us is the day's setter's name appears in the box. If you like X, click! If you don't like Y, ignore!

  10. If one clicks on the pointer one gets all the CW's with solutions from 11179 (including intervening Sunday CW's)
Has the redesigned website been launched only today? Looks much better than the earlier version. Col. had said that the day's grid used to appear between 10 & 11AM earlier.
