  2. Happy Tamil New Year and Vishu to all. May the New Year make all things interesting.
Thank you Gridman for a nice enjoyable CW to start the New Year. May it continue through the year and more.
Missed it by a whisker- to be more precise due to a sentry. Disappointed after doing all the seemingly tough ones. Could only smell samosas!

  5. Nice puzzle but deprived of samosas by 26A SENTRY and 17D VESICLE. I had 17D as VESICAL. As for 26A it was a big ?.

  9. Puthandy vazthugal ! Happy New Year..happy Vishu

Gosh it was easy peasy today from Gridman as a celebration.. but ran into the vesical/vesicle issue...put down as vesical and so had 26a as Clotty - thought clots halt bleeding hence halter could be clotty :) The sentry connection is a bit obscure from Halter.. Halt caller perhaps? Anyway not cribbing.. welcome respite from the sun today here..with a lil rain.. and feast with avial and payasam and all done.. ready to be kabalikaramed :) Have a great day all..

  11. Happy Vishu and New year to all@THCC.
Enjoyed the crossword today. 20D reminded me of the old O. Henry short story "A ramble in Aphasia" - don't think I've seen the word anywhere else :)

  12. Happy New Year & Vishu to all..Gridman's 14 letter grid was a nice beginning to the new...loved doing the long ones..Oscar Wilde's epigram reminded of the famous one,"I can resist everything except temptation"

  13. Happy Vishu and new year to ye-all !!
CV: Your comment on F under yesterday's annotation in AFFAIR. F is from Fortissimo in music language for strong and P is for soft from Pianissimo. I thought, as a veteran solver you knew this? How come no one else had responded to your query?

Let's all accept open discussion and stop blog-b(a)iting each other. We had hounded off one earlier setter by Nattering Joyfully against her !

Tolerate and relate to each other patiently !!

    2. I too thought of this but the crossings I have are correct.
If you can give me your email ID, I can scan a copy of the completed grid and you can verify.

I have a feeling that the compiler had goofed up or the printers had let a gremlin creep in ! Both are not unusual.

This crossword is from Mumbai Mirror which is part of my past clippings that I attempt at times.

      Thanks for showing interest, Ajeesh.

  20. Today it is easier, but not a great puzzle Lots of glitches And ambiguous instructions. head means PHAS should be in the start, not behind letter i . So answer must be AIPHAS in 20 down terrible

    1. I see an indirection with a = one = I (if I am right). Ahead means go in front of a fodder component not particularly at the beginning of answer. So no problem I suppose

      Delete
    2. 20 One has a short period ahead with a language loss (7) APHASIA {A}{PHASe}{1}{A}

There is no ambiguity. One =1, A Short period = A PHASe. Ahead is moving A PHAS before 1 and then A.

    3. To quote Ravi you are trying to defend something that is undefendable . Instead of conceding that there's a fault you wish to make up an explanation for it This is why we cannot grow

    4. Why should he concede if there is a valid explanation?

    5. @Mahesh,
Please point out what's not right in my post @ 7.43.

    6. You say Ahead Yet you deceive readers by placing the word behind. Ahead means A PHAS should follow I. This is basic grammar no doubt

  21. Vesical in medical parlance implies something related to bladder usually urinary bladder e.g vesical calculus.vesicle suits the definition better.
