Hello Prasanna sir,
DeleteThe intended annotation for 20a was this.
Captain - C
King - lear
First class saves - cs
Central defender - en
Along with a
Makes is the anagram indicator
Clear (csaen)* clearances
Menaning kicking the ball away multiple times
oh. noted my error. Thanks Mr. Sridhar. well solved. since I passed half way I assumed the meaning other way. searched google and taken the anno. as
Delete( A centre-back (also known as a central defender or centre-half, as the modern role of the centre-back arose from the centre-half position)
But somehow, I spotted that I am wrong in anno part. Thanks
Thanks for publishing the crossword.
ReplyDeleteThe intended anno for 20@ is
Captain - C
King - lear
First class saves - cs
Central defender - en
Along with a
Makes is the anagram indicator
Clear (csaen)* clearances
Menaning kicking the ball away multiple times
that would be too close to an indirect. long winding.
Deletemakes first class as aces with central defenders would made a better reading in my view
DeleteThank you Sridhar. Enjoyed doing the CW,but could have avoided a few very long clues. But I enjoyed the jump from a cricketing legend to a football one. I was still searching around in cricket until I saw the solution in the blog. Bradman's average of 99.96 (If I remember right) is something unthinkable. Thank you for recalling it.
ReplyDeleteThat clue was little convoluted for its surface meaning. Bradman was dismissed on the second ball of first innings when he just needed 4 runs to get to average of 100.
DeleteLast mile delivery was also different.
ReplyDeleteCol.,
ReplyDeleteTH print edition at Chennai declares holiday only today. So there may be paper & CW tomorrow. But specials are always welcome.
