  5. Bodegas seem to be NY special (on googling) but I was more familiar with 7/11 stores which are spread all over U.S. Same type of neighbourhood convenience shop, though not open 24/7.

  6. Thank you Incognito!!! Your clueing is so clearly parsable that even a THC layman like me can complete your puzzle. I've not looked at THC for the past 10 years and voila... the last 3 days I was in heaven. Was able to complete over 90 % of your puzzles. Today, I hit the jackpot... 100%!!! Thank you for making your puzzles solvable. :) Kudos for your construction. I've been a NYT junkie specifically for their Thursday puzzles over a long time.

  7. The 2nd Innings

Alana met IVAN through a dating app. A widow, from LAOS, with 2 STEPSONS, she was nearing 50. Managing her own BODEGA, she was also the EDITOR of a local weekly.

After talking over the phone, for almost 2 months; she was planning to surprise him at his CLINIC, with a mid morning visit.

As Ivan had DIABETES, Alana packed her LEFT OVER CORDON BLEU with some CITRONS, giving the cakes ET AL a miss. After some DEBATE, she also bought a book of YEATS poems.

An IRATE Alana realised, what a SCRAMBLE it had been; to get the GREEN LIGHT from her sons for this visit & to invite IVAN home for the FESTIVALS. She had BRIBED them with a special dinner & SEEN them melting down slowly.

As she fastened her SEAT BELT, she felt her own EXCITEment. It wouldn't be INACCURATE to say, the ACHE in her heart, over the sudden demise of her husband, was still there. It was a MURDER by street hoodlums, near Central Park. A SLUR on the NYPD, as it was still an open case.

But now she was ready to move on. Driving towards the CANTONMENT, she FLED the IRRITANT NY roads, waiting to hit the UNEVEN tracks of the suburbs.

There was joy in her heart & a song on her lips.

2nd innings may have disappeared from cricket; but thank God! for it's presence in love & life!

  8. Nice story. Thank you.
But don't kill test cricket so soon! It is still managing to survive the onslaught of T 20.

  16. Would SLUR qualify as a Dual Definition (DD). At least, I looked it that way... Another definition for slight would be SLUR or mispronunciation could also be due to a SLUR????
