Too complicates clue requiring exquisite knowledge of guitar (i used to till i gave up my Givson to alma mater music club).
DeleteAxe is a slang for saxaphone that settled on to electric guitar.
Shred is a technique of playing guitar.
No special knowledge required. Chambers lists "guitar" under the entry for "axe" and OED lists a style of guitar playing under shredding.
