    1. Air cutter only. Why Air Guitar?

      Delete
    2. It is AIR GUITAR, an imaginary instrument played while miming.

"Axe" is a synonym for guitar, while "shredding" is used to describe guitar-playing.

      Delete
    3. Thanks Economiser for correcting me.
      Sathia

    4. Too complicates clue requiring exquisite knowledge of guitar (i used to till i gave up my Givson to alma mater music club).

Axe is a slang for saxaphone that settled on to electric guitar.

Shred is a technique of playing guitar.

      Delete
    5. No special knowledge required. Chambers lists "guitar" under the entry for "axe" and OED lists a style of guitar playing under shredding.

  17. 19a. DEDUCED = Came to conclusion
DAD = Old man, ravenous= DD
SEDUCER = Temptress, nude = EDUCE
Straddling denotes insertion of Educe in DD

    2. You are correct, these are triple-definitions. I don't think it's new, but it is certainly an unusual clue type.

oppressive adj 1 cruel, tyrannical and unjust • an oppressive regime. 2 causing worry or mental distress; weighing heavily on the mind. ***3 said of the weather: heavy, hot and sultry.*** oppressively adverb. oppressiveness noun.
      ETYMOLOGY: 17c.

    5. Not so sure post 2021!
Even so crosswords should stay away from such political clueing.

    6. Oppressive adj ***3 said of the weather: heavy, hot and sultry.***

How is this implying anything political? The clue is describing Ecuador as a country with hot climate.
