  1. In 25ac I think two meanings are merged seamlessly. Of course, "rope in" may be just 'enlist'. But when you "rope (someone) in", you "draw (someone)in as if with a rope; lure". Hence the clue-writer seems to have added 'through deception'.
    Just explaining away: you are entitled to your view.
