  1. Hi

16a The Bridge term ‘peter’(A term used mainly in England to describe a high-low made in discarding, when unable to follow suit. In the game of Whist, the forerunner of the game of bridge, the term referred only to a high-low discard only in the trump suit) as a pun, to dwindle away was nice.

Of course, as the Col. observed, plenty of female proper names.

  2. 1d was a bit in doubt regarding extra H since I had taken Companion to be C. Thanks, Col, for explaining CH. As long as it is not Companion of the Bath ! GCB, KCB, DCB, CB et al

  3. Though I have shown 17D TOTTERS as a DD I am unable to link it to the first half of the clue.
Does anyone have a better idea?
