Spiffytrix,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Anno of yesterdays {T{RIB}UNE}
N(A)(MASK)AR<-
ReplyDeleteSpiffytrix in 35a. 5a reminded of: Gar Firduas ruhe zamin ast, hamin asto hamin asto hamin asto. And S must be in the 7th Heaven.
I knew it that Inuit was a White house inhabitant. Norma, the DIVA, was reported to be Jack’s SWEETHEART. Spiffy seems to have skirted controversy by not using the name of an IAF person presently in the harsh floodlight when framing the clue for 11a.
Instead of bringing up AN-A-THE-MAs and becoming a 5d, let us remember not to forget the Burn’s version in Sean Connery’s voice:
Shid ald akwentans bee firgot,
an nivir brocht ti mynd?
Nice puzzle agian!!
ReplyDelete2D: ALBANIANS - BASIL = NAAN
2D Remove NAAN from Albanians for Basil. Or, add Basil to Naan to make Albanians

ReplyDeleteSpiffytrix has been blessed with a baby boy on the 1st. Congratulations to the proud parents.
Congrats to Spiffytrix and Family!
ReplyDeleteHow many of you think 24A might have more than the Grid answer, given the context?
8 - Knitted the sweater for one's spouse? (10) - SWEETHEART* Will all spouses be sweethearts :-)
ReplyDeleteWorse luck, all sweethearts (of a person) can be spouses
18a We have entered the fourth dimension.
Thanks VJ & Gita,
ReplyDeleteThese deletion clues seem to be my undoing
2d is reverse anagram, I would think. Take 'naan' and 'basil' and 'prepare' them (anag ind) for ALBANIANS.
ReplyDeleteThere is no deletion there.
8 - So many better ways, that clue could have been written ..

ReplyDeleteWe males don't think so far ahead! Women accuse us that we don't think at all.
@C 03 December, 2010 08:37 - You jut confirmed for us that Spiffy is a male. LOL.

It was in this context that I said: Spiffytrix in 35a. 5a reminded of: Gar Firduas ruhe zamin ast, hamin asto hamin asto hamin asto. And S must be in the 7th Heaven.
I unfortunately jumped the gun, since I thought most visitors at Orkut would already have known the news.
Gita: How many of you think 24A might have more than the Grid answer, given the context?
I think if you think in the same vein, you could also interpret Deepak's "Hats off" in an offbeat manner.

ReplyDeletenalla mazhuppareengae!

ReplyDeleteHow many articles does it take to turn mother away to banishment?
ReplyDelete@Kishore - 03 December, 2010 08:41. I love your way with words ;-). Does Richard care to comment?
ReplyDeleteCV: I think, "We do not think. Period." (What a paradox we weave, when we first practice to deceive)
ReplyDeleteIf we thought, would we be married ? And even if we did, would we be allowed to continue after marriage ? :-)
Gita 846: Thanks. My comment was 'inspired' by those family planning ads long back urging riders to wear helmets.
ReplyDelete4 - White house inhabitant could be in wife's kimono (6)
ReplyDeleteSome White house inhabitant was reported to be more in other ladies' kimonos or other dresses than in his wife's.
Liked the cartoon, Deepak, when you live in an igloo, you just have to hit the roof to make a drink on the rocks.
@Kishore 6:37 pm (43 minutes ago) Orkut: 35A? You forgot the more relevant 8D, and maybe even 22D

There is a setter called Spiffytrix,
ReplyDeleteWhose crossword clues are fantastix,
They are certainly better,

Really AWESOME CW today! One of the best I've seen in a long time! Very, very clever! :) Even better than yesterday, and yesterday was very good in itself! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Spiffytrix!
Ode to our setters:
ReplyDeleteI like it when GRIDs are MANned grammatically.
And, those that are SPIFFY rather than a complicated maTRIX,
Or, puzzles that are not CRYPTic intO the NITE
And, some whose church clues are MANNA to the soul
When clues make sense , how come we say NEY ARTHA?
Like those that are SANs complications or ‘KALAK’…
Only one seems to he the anomaly
The one whose name rhymes here, almost perfectly!
---Pardon the liberty with spelling and grammar.

ReplyDelete@Kishore - BTW, ROFL - Leslie Nielsen comment. How come I can't write on your wall?
ReplyDeleteI just read thro the rest of today's blog, and wish I had time to respond to a lot of the comments today! Clearly, it was one of the best CWs by far! Unfortunately, I have to go and get my learner's licence... my intl. lic.. expired a while back! :(
ReplyDeleteSo... I'll just say this:
Spiffytrix: CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Welcome to fatherhood! :)
For better or for verse, let us traverse the universe of diverse words and converse about live reverse, adverse, inverse, transverse, averse, obverse, before you say this is perverse.

ReplyDeleteDoctor provided a drop of tasty substance - {DR} for Doctor {IF} is provided, {T} is first letter of Tasty.
ReplyDeleteHIKING also reminded of a prohibited usage in airline radio communication. Never call your friend Hi, Jack. This usage is specifically banned to avoid confusion due to phonetic resemblance to Hijack.
