  2. 11 - The stage, especially of an ancient Greek theatre (5) - SCENE [E]
should be SKENE - In ancient Greek theatre, this was a building behind the playing area that was originally a hut for the changing of masks and costumes but eventually became the background before which the drama was enacted.

  3. Suresh @ 8:38,

With WWW at one's disposal the sky is the limit to my encyclopaedia ;-)

  4. Today's puzzle was a lot better in comparison. I had the stage as scene too, but Skene looks like is the correct answer.

  5. I still feel the crossword lacked eclat though was a gallant effort and I cant wait for the skene to change. Not many bloopers today yet did not totally satisfy. The X factor is missing in these crossies.

  7. Ajay,

The skene changes tomorrow and will remain so till the 30th after which we'll be back to Square one, maybe, way below square one I should say.

  9. Reasonably good, and no red herrings today. We will find out about SKENE vs SCENE tomorrow I guess, but anyway I have learnt a new word!

  10. By the way, I think Anno for 15d should be {AS}{SAIL}{ANT}.
    Any comments?

  12. 27A Interestingly 'FIDDLER' also fits this clue perfectly. Actually had that as a placeholder for some time (and wasted time)
