Got almost all the answers in one reading today. Whether it is down to good clueing or something else I don't know, but Sankalak gives back at least half an hour of my life to do other things !
ReplyDeleteHi all,
ReplyDeleteMarking the attendance register, just in case. (Ref poor participation).
Kishore, the 'pun'dit par excellence -
Your Mar 28 - 1747
Enjoyed the play with Urdu 'gham' and adhesive. :)
Bhavan @ 8:42,
ReplyDeleteDefinitely good clueing and we call it easy. Just try to imagine the clue we would get from NJ for 29A
Given the easy nature of today's offering, maybe we can challenge ourselves with something that Anax has posted in his site (http://crossword.info/anaxcrosswords/CRYPTALE01) - it is a 6x6 barred grid puzzle with a novel way of presenting the clues. The clues run together as a sentences and the entire across and down clues are presented as a paragraph each and it is up to the solver to decode the start and end of each clue (though each clue satisfies the cryptic requirement of def. and word play). The enu for the clues are given at the end of each para.
ReplyDeleteIt should be ok to have a go here because Anax put it in the public forum with the express intent of soliciting solver opinions - several of us here frequent his site and so I thought it might interest folks here..
The clues are:
Across
1/6/8/9/10/11 Drink with no head? Scotch for a very trim old man about to scrounge from black prisoner, convicted chap seen around poorly lit street, always in control (5,6,4,4,6,5)
Down
2/3/4/5/7/8 Planet's core to lure a star - rising magnetism, of course, starts to have effect, core getting eroded. Goddess, caught by sun god, has good rock, yellow part making planet's trajectory degenerate with pressure on top side (6,5,6,4,5,4)
The way the clues are presented reminds of Kishore's stream of consciousness posts with the THC answers of the day seeded in them.
Delightful clueing! Getting the solutions quickly is one thing, the enjoyment of the way the clue leads to the answer is quite another. And this is where Sankalak scores.
ReplyDeleteMost enjoyable.Difficult to pick COD.Quite a few really!
ReplyDelete9D is wonderfully phrased, and for the surface reading, it is my COD. There are many nice clues in this one, but I do have an objection to 21D: I do not see a singular noun form of the word in the dictionary, which the clue implies.
