Yesterday someone mentioned ORIBI in a quick crossword.
ReplyDeleteWell, this appeared five times in THC, each time as a cryptic clue.
1. As a telescopic clue.
2. As a c/c in an Across slot.
3. As a c/c with the same wordplay as above but suitable to the Down slot.
4. As an acrostic, with an Indian touch within it.
5. As a c/c with a wordplay different from 2 and 3 and with an abbr. component that may be familiar only to Indian solvers.
I forgot to mention that all the above instances are from my dB of Gridman's clues.
ReplyDeleteOK, let me try a wordplay different from all of above:
ReplyDelete(Down clue)
One pen erected for African antelope (5)
Nothing's on Eves' origin and me for an antelope (5)
ReplyDelete12 - Settles down, as Rocky never did? (8) - STEADIES [CD]
ReplyDeleteDoes the second part have a hidden significance? Like rocky meaning unsteady?
Lousy time today with all the E's.
ReplyDeleteI play snooker, but never realised that I was giving English to the ball so often
28A could have been much better if it was 'A believer, or probably not."
16D is repeated from here and 4d from here
ReplyDeleteLot of AF stuff:
ReplyDelete9a, 13a,17a read with 19a (cashier?),2d
in addition to flier, airman, flight control, cadet in the clues
Yes Kishore. Must have been feeling nostalgic.
ReplyDeleteI don't think he would have been nostalgic about a 13A
ReplyDeleteQuite right Deepak. It would be nightmarish.
ReplyDeleteSuresh
ReplyDeleteEven in my cloistered life I had an occasion to watch live snooker at national competitive level very recently.
This was at a venue just 2 minutes' walk from my home!
How interesting. My venue is also 2 minutes walk from home.
ReplyDelete2 minute snooker lookers
ReplyDeleteQuite some competition for the Maggical cooks.
An epiphany today (with apologies to Descartes):
ReplyDeleteJe suis donc je pense
If I was not, I wouldn't.
Kishore
ReplyDeleteI suspect that without translating the French phrase you have given a kind of your reaction to it.
I can't claim I know French but having done a primary certificate course and knowing the Eng equivalents of words in foreign phrases, I thought the phrase meant
I am, therefore I think.
The original Latin statement by Descartes: Cogito ergo sum
