Arms theme?
ReplyDeleteI feel using words like manchineel, suni, cartonnage or prato as part of the wordplay is a little hard on the solvers.
Weaponry theme
ReplyDeleteBhavan @ 8:34,
ReplyDeleteBut not as bad as yesterdays AMBO to A.S.B.O
Col In fact I thought it was the other way. Yesterday it was only one, today many more.
ReplyDeleteI actually liked today and didn't have Amy issues, my only worry was that I was embarrassingly left with David's City until inspiration finally arrived.
ReplyDeleteBhavan,
ReplyDeleteI didn't mean the number of such words but the degree of difficulty in arriving at the solution from the clue
Congrats to Deepak on annos for CARNAGE, MACHINE. I had no clue on the annos, though the answers were obvious from the crossings.
ReplyDeleteSub theme of passtimes:
ReplyDeleteMERRY GO ROUND
SLINGSHOT (William Brown ;-))
ENTERTAINMENT
MACHINE (slot ?)
HORSE RACE
Anno for 1D is tough and pretentious. Can't exactly get the anno for 25D, though it is from GNU*. Nice puzzle otherwise.
ReplyDeleteMathi,
ReplyDeletePiece = Definition
on the
African antelope = GNU
going up = Indicator for repositioning
for all to see = U (Universal)
So GNU = G(+u)UN(-u)ie 'U' going up = GUN
Col, thanks for providing the link.
ReplyDeleteKishore, not sure if you are still facing the "cartoon not showing up" problem with FF. I hit the problem again the last couple of times (including today). One trick that worked for me was a refresh of the page which then displayed the cartoon correctly :)
Thanks. I missed the Universal part, not for all to see!
ReplyDeleteYes VP. Strangely refreshing works.
ReplyDeleteThanks, VP 1134, that was refreshing.
ReplyDeleteYes,it worked for me too.Thank you.Till now I used to switch to IE to see the cartoon (not coming up with firefox)
ReplyDelete13A is probably an E (to say, by definition).
ReplyDeleteWhat about 3D? Is it a univeral confirmation (at least among with those who solve crosswords) that Man is a sycophant?
Kishore,
Indeed. Initially, I thought the theme was vices. :D
