Is it slid or DEC (LI) NED?
DeleteSlid is a synonym for declined? Did not chk the thesaurus.
DeleteTrue. But why go for a synonym when we get it from the word itself? More direct.
DeleteDoes out of bounds mean
Delete1. Cut the edges out (boundaries)
2. Or take the central core?
Was not sure. So....
I ofcourse solved it as DECLINES first- but due to above confusion.
If someone can clarify....
"Out of bounds" imo can be used to get rid of just the outermost edges as well as everything on the outside. In this case, I used it to get rid of everything except the central core. And yes, decLIned was the intent.

DeleteA unique clue! Where 3 denotes WP(3d) and 5 the definition(5d)
DeleteStill not complete Vasant. You are missing something.
DeleteWill wait a bit more for someone to anno precisely...
DeleteClue is baker delivery. It's a RA. Off break is the answer. Delivery is the meaning
DeleteAlmost there... The clue as written is "3-5" though (not "3 5" or "3,5"—"baker delivery" reads awkwardly, should have been "baker's delivery")
DeleteWhat is baker delivery?
DeleteIf the intended clue was Baker delivery, why 3-5, why not 3 space 5?
Delete"Baker delivery" was quite not the intended middle step indeed. I've now copied my notes about this clue in a comment below, ptal.
DeleteThanks Viresh. That was an amazing clue. 3-5 to be read as clues 3 to 5.

DeleteHere are my notes for this crossword (mainly about 8d.)
ReplyDeleteNotes
This crossword has one small, extra layer of cryptic trickery. The clue for 8 Down reads:
3-5? (3-5)
The surface seems to be questioning the veracity of the enum! As an added distraction, 3 and 5 add up to 8, the clue number.
The correct parsing is to take the solutions of clues 3, 4, and 5 (i.e., the clues in the range 3-5) to form the 8 Down clue as:
Baker offers delivery? (3-5)
This can then be solved as a reverse anagram clue to get the solution OFF-BREAK.
This puzzle is a pangram. It was used in the second preliminary round in the finals of Indian Crossword League's (IXL) 2021 competition.
