  5. 7 D - ELATION( RELATION - R) ( Unsure of Anno)

  6. You have given the anno!
You only did not mention how you got 'Relation'- from M in law.
    R from 3 R's- Reading, wRiting. aRithmetic

  7. I don't understand 3 R's, pl elaborate

    1. Elaborated above- as pronounced R comes first in 2nd & 3rd. ('rithmetic)
3 R's are used to indicate literacy and used commonly in CW's

    2. Ok what is the role of Mother-in-law here, how your 3 R's come

  10. I always feel very satisfied after solving Arden's puzzles! Today, however, the clue for 14A: VAGRANT seemed too contrived. In 15D, palle was new to me but it was a fair clue.

  11. This is what I was able to get for Palle on googing-

The balls forming the cognizance of the family of the Medici, six of them (five red and one white with a bearing upon it) being charged upon the shield, which frequently occurs in Florentine and other Italian works of art. The balls have reference to a game similar to tennis.
