As you said, there were some nice clues today. Could easily complete the whole puzzle fast.

Nice to see addition of photographs. Guess it will be a regular feature.

Can you please make two amendments?

    1. Give a para break after the answer to 14 Across - INVENTOR

    2. Answer to 2 Down should read TITRATE.

It must be an oversight in either case. No offence please.

  2. I have come across spelling variants for 13a but Chambers allows REEBOK for the antelope. In fact, it lists no other variants.

  3. The latest Oxford Dictionary which I use also gives Reebok as an alternative spelling

  4. Perhaps, products associated with speed are branded with names of fast animals. E.g. Reebok and Puma (sports shoes).

The same story with sleek and fast cars - Impala, Gazelle, Mustang, Jaguar, Cougar, Lynx etc. There are many others. Can't recall off-hand.

There are cars named after other animals like Eagle, Falcon, Beetle and so on.

    These are my observations.

Friends are welcome to make additions to the above ists.

It would be interesting to know some new brand-names not mentioned here.

  5. Correction:

The penultimate sentence in my last post should read: "Friends are welcome to make additions to the above lists."

  6. I am not willing to give ideas to Neyartha!

Even from your list above, he should be able to create a typical crossword.

did one mistake on tweed which i put as 'trend' just because i couldn't work out 'tweed'..in hindsight the clue looks simple enough. had got 't' & 'd' as first and last words but wasn't able to decipher 'wee'

  8. Excuse me for sending a personal message through this forum.

    Chatz,

Come to think of it, the point that my list of names could be used by anyone as grist for the crossword mill never struck me.

Can you please check your Yahoo mailbox, which you said you don't open regularly. Please also let me know your regularly-used email ID.

  9. Sankalak is generally non-controversial. But I have an issue with a clue that appeared yesterday. Sorry for posting this today, but I was pressed for time yesterday.
4D - Plaster Saint - Plaster saint is no different from saint (in terms of meaning)and I presume the only reason 'plaster saint' is used is to signify a more virtuous entity than the human form.
I was therefore surprised to see the clue "pretends to be virtuous" as definition for plaster saint.
