  3. Not much of 'Sankat' posed by Sankalak's creation today.

    Across

    10 Decoration for English girl, once Chaplin’s wife (9)

    Came to know from a Google search that the good old Charlie had married four times.

    16 Drink containing nitrogen, something possibly poisonous (5)

    Suggests all snakes are not poisonous. Good !

    19 Plant grown in Palani seasonally (5)

    Good clue. Indeed an easy hidden word. But the reference to the place and season likely to keep the solver thinking for a while.

    29 A very important point in time, not one for mendacity (6,2,5)

    Liked this one.

    Down

    24 Faith in finding 51 included in complaint (6) BELIEF

    Was surprised to find from a Google search that 'beef' can mean a complaint also.

    @George

    It is a rare coincidence that your answers match the clues from both sides.

    Quick thinking !

  4. @ George,
    Both PITTA and BALSA as shown in the main post are the correct answers, no doubts on that, for your info I shall explain the annotation.

    Appeal accepted by school discussion group for bread (5)

    Appeal = IT
    accepted by = inclusion indicator
    school discussion group = PTA (Parent Teachers Association)
    for = connector
    bread = Definition = P{IT}TA

    Light wood that could overturn a piece of stone, say (5)

    Light wood = definition
    that could = connector
    overturn = reversal indicator
    a = A
    piece of stone = SLAB

    Light wood = {BALS<-}{A}

  5. Congrats, Colonel. Just noticed that your visitors' tally is racing towards the 40,000 landmark. It should turn around by late this evening.

    Any way to find out who would be the lucky 40,000th visitor? Any reward for him / her ?

  6. Hi Richard,
    I did offer dinner to my 10,000th visitor and it happened to be Bala from the US, he has said he will cash it when he comes to India next time.
    Actually there was a glitch in the counter sometime ago, the reading should actually be more than 50000.
    This count however is not correct in the true sense as it counts a hit every time the page is refreshed, so while you are looking at the blog and click on one of the links and then come back it is counted as another hit.
    Notwithstanding I will next invite for dinner the visitor who turns over the 100000 number

  7. The day of hitting the 100,000 mark may not be very far.

    I will be avidly looking forward to the day.
