  1. Good morning Colonel,

I didn't mind the DDs too much, but found 1D's surface unsatisfactory and the indicator "discovered" (6D) insufficient.

28A and 22D work very well, I think.

Doesn't You Said It appear in The Times of India, a rival paper? Quite sporting of The Hindu to mention it (17A), it's probably the Christmas spirit at work!

You Said It is too popular a Cartoon for anyone to have a bias about

  4. Talking about the abovementioned pocket cartoon:

I still enjoy it but nowadays I am not really comfortable about it because I feel the popularity of the cartoon and the name behind it is being unnecessarily exploited.

The name is on top but there is no signature. Why? Because the drawing may not be by the person.

There was a rumour that the person was using his left hand. Is he still using it?

If you look carefully, the drawings have different characteristics on different days: some days it has vague similarities to the master's strokes but on other days it looks like a child's work.

Is the master giving the idea and others are drawing it?

Sometimes it is mentioned on top: From the archives - which means merely reproducing an old cartoon.

I have great respect for the Tamil writer Kalki and I have his works with me and certainly I would like to reread some of them. But I don't approve of the magazine by his name constantly reproducing his works. One work alone might have been serialised thrice in the magazine over the years.

I think great masters remain masters: no artificial boosting is needed to keep the name in circulation.

  5. @Colonel: No question about the cartoon's popularity, but it is normal for papers to avoid what they interpret as promotion for a rival. Therefore my surprise.

@CV: I haven't followed the cartoon closely but it's sad if that is the case.
