ReplyDeleteCR could be for King Charles - R for Regis?
Richard
Thanks Richard,
ReplyDeleteI did think of ELATE + R but never even bothered to check it as I never imagined it could be the name of a beetle.
Cr short for crown or king?
ReplyDelete26A. In NJs notorious long list of abbreviations is up = in court
ReplyDeleteSuresh
ReplyDeleteCR could be short for Carolus Rex, Latinized version of King Charles of England, and also that of Sweden. (Sorry, in my earlier post, I wrongly mentioned that R stood for Regis. Somehow, had Aqua Regis in mind !)
Similarly Queen Elizabeth is referred to as ER which stands for Elizabeth Regina in Latin. This appears often in crosswords.
