    I did think of ELATE + R but never even bothered to check it as I never imagined it could be the name of a beetle.

    CR could be short for Carolus Rex, Latinized version of King Charles of England, and also that of Sweden. (Sorry, in my earlier post, I wrongly mentioned that R stood for Regis. Somehow, had Aqua Regis in mind !)

    Similarly Queen Elizabeth is referred to as ER which stands for Elizabeth Regina in Latin. This appears often in crosswords.
