Hi everyone
ReplyDeleteMISSIONARY, STOP, SWALLOW, ARMENIA, MAEVE, ANTENATAL, ERRONEOUS, ORALS, ADMIT, ACADEMIC, INSIPID, ENTRANT, TOSS, CONTINGENT (liked this), MOSS, SCARABS, TANGENT (good one), PLATE GLASS, MEMENTO, NONSTOP, TESTAMENT, REMISES, AGITATE, AUDIO, EATEN, STET were PASSABLE.
Wishing the august meet of Sloggers and Bloggers all success. All credit to Gita for the initiative, Chaturvasi and Deepak for planning support. Wish I were there.
The cartoon for 1A (pray~prey) is simply superb.
ReplyDeleteStet took my memories to old typewriting classes in the institute
ReplyDelete6 - Don't go on piling lots of money (4) - STOP ? STOP<-
ReplyDeleteCan piling be a reversal indicator
15 - Children's writer not starting to make a comeback as a playwright (5)
ReplyDeleteNESBI(-t) <-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E._Nesbit
But not starting indicates deletion of starting letter , ie 'N' in this case, not 'T' as is reqd for the clue
Maddy. Good one. If you read the clue as not starting to make a comeback, it could refer to the first letter on the way back too
ReplyDeleteMeaning that deletion of T is okay in my view
ReplyDeleteIf I go on like this, Richard will present me a copy of Eats shoots and leaves
ReplyDeleteSuresh :-)
ReplyDeleteRe IBSEN, how about looking at it this way?
ReplyDeletenot (deletion indicator)
starting to (the first letter 't')
deleting it from NESBI(-t)
Reversal - IBSEN
Remise : Thought I will share a thought with all of you here. I am in the Stock Broking business. There is a term commonly used. It is 'Remisier'. But most people I know pronounce it as 'remiser'.
ReplyDeleteRichard, that is a good way of looking at Ibsen
ReplyDelete24 - Being sound Diana takes exotic gold with joy (5) - {AU}{DI}O Anno pending
ReplyDeleteAs this has not beena nswered yet, I will offer an anno, though I don't quite like it.
being sound is the def.
Diana is DI (as indicated)
exotic gold is AU (-do- though I don't understand why 'exotic' is used
joy is supposed to give O - but I would think that O is an expression of joy, an interjection, an ejaculation
Also two components AU and O are on either side of DI - which is not indicated in the clue
Here is Kishore's post from yesterday's blog:
ReplyDeleteHi
Out early today, hence fitted in here. After yesterday’s Vatican, today Jerusalem in clue 1a with an answer of M(IS-SION)ARY, along with TESTAMENT is sure Manna from the sky. I ADMIT it is hard to SWALLOW an INSIPID ROAST, but is it ACADEMIC to be AGITATEd about ERRONEOUS inclusion of MOSS and SCARABS in a PLATE GLASS MEMENTO, CONTINGENT upon a TOSS ? IBSEN (Nesbit(–t) <-) was great. NEW POTATO, TAN-GENT, IDLES, ROAST, AU-DI-O, ADMIT were nice.

Is the MISSIONARY clue a repeat. I get a feeling of deja vu
ReplyDeleteYes ET Mumbai no. 3650
ReplyDeleteAnd ET Mumbai 4637, which is a repeat of 3650
ReplyDeleteManna is plagiarising unabashedly. Not even modifying the clues
ReplyDeleteAll the best for Sloggers and Bloggers. Wish I could be there
ReplyDeleteCould the O in audio refer the big O, orgasm, a kind of joy?
ReplyDeleteI had interpreted IBSEN the same way, Richard.
ReplyDeleteKishore 19:14 Yes, I read your morning's post just now. Btw, are you making it to Chennai, by chance?
ReplyDeleteSuresh and Richard,
ReplyDeleteIf wishes were horses
Beggars would ride:
If turnips were watches
I would wear one by my side
Nice one, Deepak. It must be your own creation.
ReplyDeleteI guess you are already Chennai-bound.
Not yet my train leaves at 15 min past midnight
ReplyDeleteI am not that creative, that was filched off the net
ReplyDeleteWas actually hoping to, Richard, but I have an international visitor. To sleep, perchance to dream. But dreams always don't come true.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, all the best for the meet. May there be many more in the future.
Alas, poor Yorick
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for the Sloggers and Bloggers meet. Have a great time and please convey my regards to everyone there.

ReplyDeleteCol ji, your play on pray, reminds me of a joke published in TIWoI, a message board is kept on which various people write their bit:
ReplyDeleteSOLDIER: I FIGHT FOR ALL
FARMER: I GROW FOR ALL
DOCTOR: I PRESCRIBE FOR ALL
LAWYER: I PLEAD FOR ALL
PRIEST: I PRAY FOR ALL
SPORTSMAN: I PLAY FOR ALL
COMMON MAN: I PAY FOR ALL
