  4. Where a clue with its solution is available, some dictionary lookups will help us understand its working.
    In days when I didn't have computers/Internet, it was such diligence helped.
    To 'send {someone] up' is to 'make fun of [someone]'.
    When you post a letter you send it.
    'up' means 'at college or at university' as in "My son is up at BITS, Pilani".

    Make fun of = Definition = SEND UP
    post = SEND
    at
    college = UP (in the UK one goes up to university)

    A 'send up' means 'An amusing imitation or parody; a takeoff'

  6. Yerraguntla would have been easier than Ellesmere Port for Everyman in India. Dictionary followed by World Book/Internet is the sequence to solving words like this, Almoner etc.

    The next S & B meet is scheduled to be held at Bangalore at my residence on Sunday, 28 Nov 10 . We can meet at my residence (address and map is available in the Contact details link on the top of this page) around 11 AM and break off around 3 PM after lunch (I propose a simple Biriyani lunch, which will be ordered from outside)

    One more from Chennai accompanying Chaturvasi(name awaited from CV)

    Muthaiah expressed willingness to attend, confirmation is awaited

    I hope I have not left out anyone.

    Anyone else who is attending please do let me know so that administrative arrangements can be tied up.
