Hi
ReplyDeleteDr DS stars today in the clue for 24d with Richard’s short cut to his name and even more diminutively in the clue for 13a. How does one interpret 9a: (-h+P)ONCHO or (-p+H)ONCHO ? The first one, methinks. As Prasanna rightly notes in Orkut, 22d could be taken as a Triple definition, by taking Giant and Greek god as two separate references. Of couse, Titan=Giant stems from the GG, but is valid as a standalone too.
Cartoon for 25a: Wonder what he is hiding under his hat !
ReplyDelete14 - Ripped apart clothes (stylish measure adopted for alteration) (10) - {RE{FINE}{ME}NT} ?
ReplyDeleteRipped apart = re_______nt
clothes stylish = fine (clothes)
measure adopted = em dash changed = me
alteration = refinement ( a bit iffy ?)
18 - Spare this for an unproductive person in the U.S. (4) - TIRE [DD] From spare tyre(tire) ?
ReplyDeleteMy car has two spare tyres/tires, except when I am not in it.
Could anyone give me the naked truth?
ReplyDeleteIs there any mixed nudists' camp in India?
If not, who will redress the situation?
2 - Tightening this makes the situation even more difficult (5) - NOOSE [CD]
ReplyDeleteCant resist saying 'no noose is good news' but do you guys remember the connection between the cartoon here and the illustration for 9a. Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo. Blondie and Tuco have a relationship where B shoots the rope used for hanging T, turns him in, claims the reward, T is set up for hanging and the story takes another iteration.
CV 0905: I will look into it.
ReplyDeleteMay be I will dis-cover/un-cover it. By George, did you see the guy in the hat hide behind an US Prez ?
ReplyDeleteNew borns will be wearing the right uniform ...
ReplyDeleteCV @ 905,
ReplyDeleteShal let you know after I uncover the naked truth.
Col.
ReplyDeleteShould 16d be "expiatory" (soothing)?It also suits the crossings-26A & 28A.
Kishore@8.34
ReplyDeletere.25A-maybe a bald head!
You mean he could be a skin-head, or rather he had skin on his head/mind :-)
ReplyDeleteI can only quote the X files line: The truth is out there ...
ReplyDeleteThanks Padmanabhan
ReplyDeleteAs rightly noted by Deepak, we have 3 varieties of this place in displays, or rather the other way round.
ReplyDeleteFinally, a good, enjoyable CW after some manna-ical days that culminated in yesterdays horribly constructed CW!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed today's CW. Just the right mix for me... Hope others had a good time too.
cheers!

ReplyDeleteThe rumours, this time, are related to her [ARB's] pregnancy not in India but in Dubai.
...So goes a sentence in a report on the Internet. Interpret it as you like.
LOL! Shame on AB if it were to be true.
ReplyDeleteColonel, re: 8 and 15D: shouldn't they be {NAVI<-}{GATE} and {EMIT*}{TING}, respectively?
ReplyDeleteI thought the use of ellipsis in a crossword is generally to connect two of the clues/answers in someway or the other.
ReplyDeleteIn that sense I didn't get what 8A(navigate) and 15A(emitting) were trying to convey together.
Or did I get the ... all wrong ?
Thanks Navneeth,
ReplyDeleteI have since corrected the Annos
Bhavan @ 13:13,
ReplyDeleteI too thought over it for a long time when I was trying to get the answer to 15A which was the last to fall, but never got the connection, in fact I cottoned onto EMITTING because of the theme.
"Steer through the opening, following northbound Ivan speaking with date upset by the sound of a bell."
ReplyDeleteWe get the above sentence by connecting two different clues. This is not totally gibberish and I thought this is all that mattered.
What should we expect from these kinda clues? Should there be a connection between the two answers?
Good to see a snap of Clint Eastwood . Reminded of my college days with movies like of "For a Few Dollars More" and"The Good ,The Bad and The Ugly'
ReplyDeleteAnd of course Joe Millard's books continuing the Spaghettis.
ReplyDeleteWatched the dollar trilogy recently. I got this feeling that they haven't aged well. Don't know how others feel. Liked the ones like Professionals better.
