No.10552, Monday 27 Aug 12, Neyartha

Neyartha makes me refer the dictionaries more than any other setters. Which is not a bad thing at all. Really enjoyed this puzzle. The theme is building materials as far as I can see is this. May be it is his own sometime soon? Let me know if you spotted any other motifs.

  1. Hi all

Could not get a few. THATCH - Lady Maggie should be thrilled over being remembered - NIGHT-TIME, ABHORRENCE, RATHER, ET CETERA, STEED, ASHIEST, METAL and some others came easily.

David, as I did, may have felt nostalgic on solving WOMANISH, which was quite a cute clue, remembering the lovely country of our temporary domicile some years ago, at different periods, of course.

  2. 15 Napier proposed one for logarithm calculation (9) ALGORITHM (LOGARITHM)*

He made no Bones about it, or did he!

WOMANISH brings me to MANISH, a name common in Gujarat and thereabouts.

    1. And also Manish Tiwary, Cambridge+Yale-educated man from Bihar, often seen on TV screens.

Kishore, I remembered you too lived in Oman for a short while, didn't you?

    1. I think it is a question of your getting better rather than Neyartha going easy (as explained earlier by Gridman)!

    4. If you can't solve all the clues, it does not matter. You can still open Col's blog at 8.30a.m.( as most of us do), understand the logic and over a few months get the hang of it.With search engines, thrill will be lost in a few days,IMHO
