    1. Definition and wordplay lead to Rampages but online grid is only complete with Rampaged. Perhaps a mistake

      Delete
    2. Is 'On' here a proper connector? It gives the impression that Ages is on top.

      Delete
    3. “On” is not a valid connector between wordplay and definition. It can act as a position indicator between wordplay components. A on B = BA in an across clue. A on B = AB in a down clue, ideally.

      Delete
    4. I think in an across clue, A on B = AB is also OK, occasionally, especially if it creates an excellent surface. I believe the Times explicitly doesn't allow it, but there are enough examples in Independent, Guardian, and THC, and the dictionary meaning does not impose a strict ordering horizontally ("a dog on a leash").

Why was I drawn to this and felt compelled to protest? We shall see :-)

    11. All the best Colonel! In last November with Madurai as base (my daughter did her Fellowship at Aravind Eye Hospital) we visited Kanyakumari, Rameswaram, Dhanushkodi, Tanjavur, Srirangam, (b/f & lunch at Trichy), Sirumalai, Samanar Hill and Kodaikanal! (I am basically from Hyderabad). Each was unique and invigorating.
