    2. I hope you are a newbie to this forum. You are expected to give your solution with proper annotation. To aid you with permission from Colji,
      Definition is Passivity= inertia
Inertia is what you get from your remaining part of the clue.
Your attempt I retain somehow doesn’t communicate, unless you have understood that somehow is the anagram indicator for retain, then I+(retain)*= inertia= Passivity.

    1. Anno. ALONE (by himself) around (without) CAP (hood)

      Delete
    2. A little tricky clue.
1.If you take definition as himself
      Then it is alone
      hood is —- al capone
      Without hood (cap) means alone
      Which Is himself.
      2. If you take definition as hood—al capone
      Himself is alone
      Hood is cap
      Hence, al(cap)one.

    1. Bird is the def. and finally caught is T. How do we get the rest of the words from river? Maybe something is missing,

      Delete
    2. IMO, bird =titmouse
      Ouse is river
Tim or Timothy is a form of grass( I think this part is missing in clue)
Tim or Timothy contains final of caught(t)
      Hence, ti(t)m+ouse
