  1. 13a "piece of" usually means one letter. I think the clue missed a reversal for I(a)R.

21d moke is a very contemptuos slang(in the past) referring black person as donkey. Should have been avoided.
24d missing an anind for wind.

    1. 13A piece could also mean a chunk(of letters), right?

    2. Perhaps the Setter meant Smoke the Donkey as given in Wikipedia.
“Smoke, also known as Smoke the Donkey, was a donkey that was a mascot and therapy animal for the United States Marine Corps in 2008 to 2009 ...”

  2. 2d Is there a reason to know this town! (ask the same question for foreign towns too). It would work as a def derived from flower - old name. But as charade!! I could only reverse engineer!

    1. Vijiram, when the annotations are already give in the blog there is no point in repeating it in the comments. This option is available for a specified clue from Non to Thu and for 5 clues per commenter on Fridays

  7. Although I am a Bangalorean, to mean hailing from Karnataka, was struck with 2-D, recalling all possible places in my home state, starting with 'D' such as Davangere, Devanhalli, Dharwar, Dhareshwar, Doddaballapur, Divgi, Dabaspet, Dongarkere, Dumble, etc. completely forgetting or missing Dandeli. And in the process could not score a Perfect Ten today despite spending a week at this town, famous for a paper mill amid greenery all around, way back in 1964.
Nonetheless and as usual, enjoyed attempting the CW grid compiled by Mr. Kishore 'Incognito' Rao.

  8. NEW YEAR'S EVE

Vladimir is seen SEATED in the VERANDAH together with L. LOREN and a CLERIC
who REASONED to no end with him.

Vladimir REACTS strongly when threatened to give a letter of UNDERTAKING.

    Did he GO BANANAS?

    What happened next?

  9. Looks like the art of Sophia Loren by CGB is inspired by this image.
