Enjoyed reading Laugh of the Week on back page of the magazine section of today's NIE.
ReplyDeleteI have said I can't speak Hindi. The joke is entirely in that language but I could well understand it.
Honestly, I didn't look at the pic alongside. Remember I didn't even know what PYT stood for?!
As for the crossword, for years I used to complete the Sunday THC/Everyman every week well before 10 a.m. but now I am unable to concentrate. Not that it has become more difficult than before.
Here's a crossword-related comic, if you like:

Talking of bi-lingual usage in newspapers, today an ad in an English newspaper says 'SALE KA BAAP', (the intended meaning being the 'father of all sales'). However, in Hindi, wouldn't just SASUR suffice?
ReplyDeleteCV @ 9:48
ReplyDeleteThat would happen to me almost everyday when I used to do the CW on paper, now that we have Chitra's app I do it on paper only when the grid doesn't show up on the app.
DG 1017:
ReplyDeleteI have heard Kapil Dev say 'Boost is the secret of my energy'. Mebbe, you could have said 'Cocoa is the secret of my crossword success' ;-)
Is that the name of your dog, Kishore?
ReplyDeleteMakes sure you gt your walk in the morning and keeps you fresh for doing the crossword.
ReplyDeleteSuresh,
ReplyDeleteCocoa is my dog who is quoted very often by Kishore, post S&B II at my place.
I read somewhere a couple of months ago that those who own dogs get suffficient exercise while walking their dogs. I take Cocoa down 5 times a day myself.
ReplyDeleteBy the way Cocoa features in one of the photographs of S&B II, he can be seen having a tug-of-war with Catherine, the HINDU reporter who covered the event.
ReplyDeleteOops! I knew that cocoa was somebody's dog. Couldn't remember whose.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first visual sighted Deepak, he was being piloted by Cocoa.
ReplyDeleteRemembering JS in 'The Man who knew too much' in the closing lines, when after having rescued his son Hank from the kidnappers, he says 'Sorry we were gone so long, but we had to pick up Hank!'. The very Hank who, when he comes to know that Frenchmen eat snails, says"If you ever get hungry, our garden back home is full of snails. We tried everything to get rid of them. We never thought of a Frenchman!" This movie also has the song Que Sera Sera.
That song is one of the most famous that I remember from 1950s. Kishore, is the period correct?
ReplyDeleteJust returned from my post-operation CT scan to review the present condition after the surgery in mid-April.
ReplyDeleteTrust all is well CV
ReplyDeleteColonel, what is "Chitra's app"?
ReplyDeleteChaturvasi, I second Suresh@13:31.
Navneeth,
ReplyDeleteIt is the application created by Chitra with which you can do the Hindu crossword online. You can access it through Orkut and Facebook
CV:
ReplyDeleteYour memory seems fine*, trust everything else is fine too.
* yes, the song is from the 50's
Deepak
ReplyDeleteCocoa I down twice a day.
Thanks, Colonel.
ReplyDeleteJust curious: Why does THC sunday crossword lag behind the guardian's everyman by about 9 instances ? I was thinking that its posted on the same day at both places ...
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing. No discussion on today's Sunday crossword!
