  1. Hello everybody

Could not get a few in the northwest corner. Liked ABIGAIL, TARPAULIN, CORDIAL, MOISTEN, MONSTER, RATIONS, SPORRAN, SHRAPNEL (guess - anno not clear), IDEALIST, CYCLONIC, ALIENATION (really good one!), REALISTS, LOCK NESS MONSTER (this one haunted me for some time), UNMASK, CASHMERE (another good one) and others.

'Evenly' and 'odd' reminded me of our once-'favourite' setter.

  2. 21 - They sustain initial growth in case you burn out (9) - CAUTERISE {CA{U}{TERI}SE} Anno not clear

    CA{UTERI}SE

    Uteri: plural of uterus

  5. Arden's CW gives a lot of satisfaction after solving. Neither simple nor very hard. Loved LOCH NESS MONSTER cluing. It eluded me till Shenoy solved it.

  6. 15A- Could it be (OR)(I) (ON)?

  7. A doubt about 25 A-
'ten' is the reversal of net. But is it ok to use 'up' as a reversal indicator is an Ac. clue?

    Connection of abduct to Shanghai?

    2. You are right Paddy, Up in an ac. clue is an aberration.

  8. Loved the Loch Ness Monster cartoon. Reminded me of a cousin in Bangalore, also a Fiat lover, who also has no mobile and no email.

  9. Good Morning all! Great start to the day - easy but interesting CW. Thank you Arden. Loved Fluid Ounce and, of course, Loch Ness Monster!

  10. 4D Defn: something like a bone - OSTEAL
It is surprising that Arden makes such a mistake.
Osteal means 'of or relating to bone or to the skeleton'. It is not 'something resembling a bone'.
Another lapse was pointed out - using 'up' as a reversal indicator in an Across clue (25A).

    1. This is what Chambers has

adj relating to, compound of, or resembling bone; sounding like bone on percussion.

So Arden is on the right lines

  11. Reference my remark in yesterday's post.

I had mail from CV informing me that all is well.

  12. Nice one again. Loved 24D. ERRANT reminded me of Don Quixote, and more recently 'Sir Nigel' by Arthur Conan Doyle. Discovered a huge store of books by ACD on Gutenberg, free downloads, and discovered a whole new world outside of Sherlock Holmes

  13. Good to begin another day with an Arden crossword.

    I am ..... today:
