ReplyDeleteHello folks
Absolutely smooth going. A cakewalk, some may say.
Got a large number of answers like these at first look - GENEROUS, TEST, ARTISTIC, STATUS, ARTISTIC, GENIUS, RESEMBLE, CANDLE, MEAL TICKET (very nice!), RUNG, SOURCE, NINETEEN (another good one!), SELECT, UNREST, DOLPHINS (straight giveaway!), TRAVELLERS, PROCESSION, SKELETON and others.
At times, I keep wondering if we, the solvers, are not a hard-to-please lot. We complain if it is easy, and do the same when it is tough. It's the way of the world, you know.
As someone said, those who cannot create much become active critics.
Did anyone notice the total pageviews counter?
ReplyDeleteIt seems to have crossed the million landmark. Congrats to the Colonel and the THC Solvers' Regiment.
Hi Richard,
DeleteDon't know how that happened it should have crossed the 9 lakh mark some time this week. When I looked at it last evening it was at 894??? or something like that
I too thought it could be a glitch. Yesterday or the day before it read something like 892XXX. It couldn't take such a stride in a day.
DeleteNo problem, let's celebrate.
I'm getting 894398?
DeleteSweet Tester! Nice one for a beginner like me. Thanks.
ReplyDelete25 - Origin of our cold in south-east (6) - SOURCE {S{OUR}{C}E} Indicator misplaced
ReplyDelete@Col, don't see what the problem is. Clue seems to be fine as it stands?
+1
DeleteOrigin of our = O
Deletecold = C
in = Indicator
SE = SE
Does not make SOURCE
The Indicator Origin I thought was intended for 'C' from Cold
I think 'origin' is definition leading to 'source'.
DeleteIf OUR C is placed in SE you get the origin. That is the way I took.
I had the same parsing as Richard.
DeleteThanks Bhavan & Richard,
DeleteI stand corrected, my mistake.
No Monday morning blues for any solver here
ReplyDeleteThe page view counter has got cold feet and backtracked
ReplyDeleteThank Goodness for it has not started running backwards.
DeleteDeepak, the pageviews counter now seems to be back in original condition (@ 10-10 am - can't say if anything happens later.)
DeleteThere again, hide-and-seek. @ 10-35 am it reads 304.
DeleteAgree with all - smooth and easy tester! Gayathri - where are you?? This must have been good for you, as it was for me!!
ReplyDeleteGood morning all.
Read & fill type crossword today.
ReplyDeleteDid the demand for samosas ...... today ?
Vehicle for reel alien (6)
{ROCK} {ET} ?
DeleteI can't remember a crossword I have solved faster than today's. Not at all complaining though, as we brace for Skul(l)dugger(y) tomorrow :)
Rocket it is. And may be it was also the speed at which today's crossword was solved.
DeleteFor every skull dug there should be a test
DeleteToo many anagrams today. Somebody on this blog once talked about having a crossword with only anagrams. Tester is trying to fulfil that request.
ReplyDeleteI did not enjoy the crossword for this reason.
Beer, I note otherwise ..........for Suresh. (4, 5)
DeleteBete noire
DeleteMeans black beast in French I presume. By misinterpreting 'for', I understand that you are giving Suresh a new name ;)
DeleteFor some solvers, anagrams are 'pet aversions' or bete noire or black beast in French.
DeleteSuresh already has a nice name. I would not offer him new name.;-)
Actually it is not an aversion as long as the surface reading is cleverly done. Otherwise the clues look contrived and monotonous.
DeleteBasically, I am a bit lazy and if the crossword is done in less than 15 minutes I have to work harder on my cycle.
On the surface most of the anagram clues make lousy reading.
DeleteCongrats!May the blog continue to flourish!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness none of of us found ourselves in the same position as this cartoon character:

Quite funny. Thanks for sharing.
DeleteEnjoyed CV sir.
DeleteNot these days, may be when NJ's turn existed
Today's was a cocktail of delicious limy slurp (12,6)
ReplyDeleteRi........ly s....e?
DeleteTaking another baby step forward
DeleteRidi....usly si..le
'nuff said already!
ReplyDeleteRichard close. But still waiting for it to be completed
ReplyDeleteI had solved it long back. Thought of giving others also a chance. Ramesh has paced much closer.
DeleteHum samajhdar hai, Richard. Ishaara kaafi hai.
Delete(For Hindi Ozhigai types this means ' We are intelligent. A small hint is enough'
Being an underdog, can I take the privilege? 'Ridiculously simple'
DeleteHa ha. Got the hint that many got it from Bhala's comment. But just wanted to see it. Completed.
DeleteThis is my 1st ever attempt at building a cw clue. So I can appreciate the time effort spent and most importantly the interest to build a complete grid with all the crossings etc. even for a simple such as this. Thank you all the setters for giving us this daily challenge
Yeaahhh :-). Finally the noob got to finish the entire crossword !!! Can't thank this support group enough.
ReplyDeleteCol: any chance of incorporating 'Like' and 'Unlike' buttons for posts similar to fb?
ReplyDeleteI did have the buttons for grading the crossword as Tough, Easy etc sometime back but removed them later on for reasons which were discussed in depth at that time. In case there is a popular demand for something I can think of it. By the way 'Unlike' doesn't sound very palatable to me.
DeleteOK. And nomenclature just from fb. Also 'unlike' is just to undo a 'like' that might be an error.
DeleteI just thought of it because we seem to have posts that go +1, +2 etc. Also to avoid a post expressing thoughts already covered in someone else's post, while having an opportunity to concur or otherwise. But is OK if already considered and rejected for good reasons
btw I think I remember the 'tough'/'easy' discussion. I think the issue there was one could click on that, remain anonymous and not give a reason.
