ReplyDelete24 Record: I chant about one’s eyefolds (9) EPICANTHI {EP}{I}{CHANT*}{1}
CV had alerted us about this word when we had PHILTRUM.
Definitely samosa territory for the Doc.
DeleteI would think of the anno as EP{1}CHANT I
Deletewith about meaning around 1
haha. i wish kishore... but banshee was a wet blanket. got stuck there. how have u been?
DeleteThen there would be no AInd for 'I chant'
DeleteThat's it. Deepak's anno is nearer the compiler's intention.
DeleteAInd is fine, but where is the anagram. I chant appears as is.
DeleteIt doesn't
DeleteMy Merriam Webster Dictionary has only "epicanthial" and no word like "epicanthi".
DeleteMaradnusro,
DeleteEpicanthi is plural of Epicanthus which is in the dictionary
20 Woman in destruction is a wailer (7) BANSHEE {BAN{SHE}E}
ReplyDeleteReminded me of E Blyton's The Mystery of Banshee Towers
Part of the Five Find Outers and Dog series. I think I may have read all of them while in school.
DeleteMissed them in school. Recently made up for it along with my grandson. Enjoyable irrespective of one's age!
DeleteRead them when I was young & reading them now when I am younger :)
DeleteNeat one from Gridman.
ReplyDeleteABCDE:
Below par performance is without class ? (4,2,4)
Below par performance is without class ? (4,2,4) .a.. .. .o..
DeleteLack of form ?
DeleteMaybe my mind is still stuck on our cricket team's performance !
I had the same team in mind when I wrote the clue.
DeleteCol.,
ReplyDeleteCan you pl. explain the anno for 11A? I am not able to follow except for N (pole) & Act(part of play)
11 Pole sometime in first part of play is lax (7) INEXACT {I}{N}{EX}{ACT}
DeletePole = N
sometime = formerly = EX
in = insertion indicator
first = I
part of play = ACT
lax = I(N EX)ACT
Pole sometime in first part of play is lax:
DeleteThis is how I had interpreted the clue
Pole = N
Sometime = EX ( late, former, onetime, sometime etc can all be ex )
in = containment indicator
first = 1 = I
part of play = ACT
is = link word
lax = Defn
NEX in IACT = INEXACT = lax
Didn't realize Bhavan had already answered it.
DeleteThanks,anyway,to both of you. Very elaborate and almost identical !
